iirc the K7 IQ isn't supposed to be any better than the K20D (I don't recall how the in-camera processing of the Samsung is rated but I believe that there is a difference between Pentax & Samsung treatment).

Your absolutley right Scott, the IQ of the K7 is meant to be similar to the K20 and Ive heard the Samsung image processor means it has the slight edge on the K20 in terms of IQ, also in low light it outdoes the K7 and is similar to the D300.
For £550 for the GX20 and a good lens brand new, vs £999 for a K7 body only it's a no brainer really!
 
They have A700s for sale in my local Sony shop, but they are expensive (around £900), and I don't know what they are like at haggling.
 
Does anyone know if I can get a good, reliable M42 adaptor for my A700, because I would like to buy a few more really good lenses.

Well really its just a bit of metal with a hole in it, so I don't think reliability will be an issue.

Have a look on Ebay, you can get dumb unchipped ones for under a fiver, and chipped ones (which simulate a 50mm f/1.7) for about £15.

took a few shots with it today at the cardiff TP meet,but nothing to shout about as the weather was pants :bang:i agree the range isn't great,but it serves me well as i'm now covered from 11mm up to 400mm minus the 50mm-70mm bit,but that doesn't bother me.

not sure why it was priced so low,as everywhere else seems to be selling them upwards of £470-ish,but as you say..maybe sony will re-badge the 10-24,making it more appealing with the range.

the carl zeiss sounds very nice...what is it with not meaning to buy stuff,and you just do :lol:
 
Hopefully an a500/550 (maybe an a700 should one come along). Not a giant leap forward but I think I've out grown the a200. It's been an awesome thing to learn with but recently a couple of things on the a200 have held me back a little........

Just need to shift it before the wife finds out what I'm up to!!:suspect:
 
I've handled an A550 and although different to my A200 it wouldn't take too much to get used to the buttons etc. Almost the same size and feel. The screen looks sublime :love: but I could sacrifice that and 2MP and buy the A500 if I don't get enough money together for the A550.

I have been keeping an eye out for an a700 but they seem to very rare at "normal" prices. I do like the idea of better build quality though, and the A700 feels lovely in my huge hands.

I did for a fleeting moment start looking at used 40D's but the idea quickly went.........!!:lol:

supposedly they are going to as a SAM lens.
thing is that the reviews of the 10-24mm probably aren't as good as the 11-18mm (in the same way that the new Sigma constant f3.5 version of their 10-20mm doesn't review any better than the variable aperture 1 despite being significantly dearer).

on their own they retail for ~£500 (£480 at Jessops atm) new these days & a bit less as part of a body+lens kit.

I've seen the 16-80 packaged with the A700 for a good price actually might get it it's that good!

I was wondering about getting this or the Sigma 10-20 which I loved before but I guess I can take a punt and if I don't like it I can sell it on and buy the Sigma.
 
Anyone know the cheapest place to get hold of a Tamron 17-50? Trying to persuade the other half I need it...

Which Sigma 24-70mm? They've done about a dozen different models.

The 70-300 APO is the one most people have problems with (even my KM5D striped the gears on it). The new 24-70 HSM has an integral motor so won't have the gear issues.

Very quick test shows its maybe a little better than the Konica Minolta 17-35 f/2.8 - f/4 (Tamron re-badge) but in all honesty its very very close. At 17mm vs 16mm both wide open (f/2.8 on both lenses), the KM / Tamron may actually be sharper.. hmm...!

I'm now cameraless with a pretty tough decision to make:thinking:

Get the rest of the money together and get a brand new a550, hunt around for an A700, or be peverted and get a used 40D (:eek:) ?........:thinking:

Decisions...decisions......:help:

Well if upgrading from the A200 the A550 would be good, I loved the handling and size of it but it felt a wee bit plasticky compared to the A700,

Its very good.

Its definitely sharper in the center than the CZ when open at 17mm compared to the CZ 16mm. This is wide open (f/2.8 vs f/2.8)

At 28mm, the CZ starts to win in the corners. The Tamron 28-75 is quite close to the CZ!

At 35mm (f/2.8 on the Zeiss) vs f/4 on the KM, the Zeiss is a bit ahead on center sharpness, which is good as there is 1 stop difference.

The CZ is a much "cooler" lens, the KM warmer. Bokeh on the CZ on distant objects is'nt as good as the KM. Much "hasher".

The Zeiss is probably the better lens, but like the Nikon 17-35 vs the Tamron 17-35 these Tammy / KM lenses are very very capable.

The Zeiss is also a lot bigger too!

Can anyone sway me one way or t'other about going for a sigma 70-200 f/2.8 (the older one) that I've been offered?

Any advice guys. I'm just in the process of selling my Sony 28mm 2.8 and Sony 18-70mm 3.5-5.6 and want to get a good allround lens.
Have been looking at the Tamron 28-75mm 2.8
