The cheapest place I found Stan was Camera Box but that was a month ago, it was £1099.99 + £4.99 p&p.

I take it you sold the bike then? :)

cheers mate.i've rung cardiff camera centre who are selling it for £1299,but will price match simply electronics price of £1125..so hopefully will be going to cardiff to get it tomorrow*

also,i'd prefer to collect rather than have it posted to me.

*if the chap thats agreed to buy my bike comes tonight as arranged ;)

Seen an A700 for 499. Should I go for it? I've posted a thread but no one's replied yet so I thought I'd post in here as well :D Is it a worthwhile upgrade from the A200? Also, are the A700s being replaced soon (and is this the reason they're selling it off)?

in a word,yes....go for it at that price.definately a worthwhile upgrade from the A200 in every department it's much better.it is rumoured to being replaced at some point, but expect the price point to be over a grand..and i don't forsee it being worth twice the price of the A700.

Might go get it on Tuesday then If they still have any ;) A friend of mine is after an SLR so I could probably sell mine quite easily which would also be a good way to get rid of the kit lens which I don't use anymore. And I gotta admit, I really don't like Sony's new line of SLRs (A230, A380). The grip is terrible! Also, the A700 is the camera I always thought I'd upgrade to, albeit not in such a short time :p

I would have preferred to collect from a store but the only store that stocked it locally wouldn't price match and they had it up at £1350. The same happened when I bought the 70-200 2.8G, there was a £60 (inc p&p) difference between Park cameras & another local store, I was stood in the shop talking to the owner but he wouldn't budge even a £1!

Shame you had to sell the bike though, needs must I suppose. :)

i've had dealings with cardiff camera centre before when i got my first A700,and they price matched then.it's crazy that some won't do it,especially when times are hard.

i've lost interest in the bike,so it's just sitting there rotting away..better to sell and get the lens i want/need ;)

Congratulations! You will love it.:clap::clap:

cheers mate...just took a few snapshots with it from outside my back, and i'm very impressed with the IQ,bokeh is to die for,and best of all(forgot this bit on my last post)i was expecting to pay £1170,and they just charged me £1100,so a big thumbs up to cardiff camera centre

That was an excellent price especially as it was over the counter.
(I paid exactly that from Camera Box.)

i'm not overly fussed with the silver colour, but i'm sure it'll grow on me with time ;)

I know what you mean, I does attract rather a lot of attention but as someone somewhere said it is to reflect the heat to keep the lens stable.

just took a shot of the moon with it...ISO800 @ 400mm wide open hand held...

Enjoy!:D its a cracking camera for the £... and even better as you improve the lens for it!

Looks like I'm getting an A700 tomorrow! My friend wants to buy my A200 because he says he knows I'd have looked after it :D Which I have! Not a scratch on it. That is if they still have any in stock. Also, driving down to Bath tomorrow to drop my sister off at uni and me and my Dad are staying overnight in Bristol so I ideally want it for then :) Hopefully many photo oppurtunities will follow. Does anyone know if the A200 battery is compatible with the A700 because I won't have time to charge the A700 before we leave and if it isn't compatible then getting it tomorrow won't be an urgent matter and I probably won't bother and will get it on monday. And it's definitely a worthwhile upgrade from the A200? As I'll be effectively paying 300 quid extra for this. It felt like a much nicer camera to hold but they didn't have it with the lens (it's body only) so I didn't really get to test it out. Felt amazing though! Also I guess it'll mean I won't have to upgrade for absolutely ages! The A700 is the camera I always 'knew' I'd upgrade to, just not this soon, but I may as well get it now innit :D

The a700 is a great camera, and a much better upgrade than the A200... i recently upgraded - and its like night and day. just sold my A200 aswell.
all the batteries are interchangeable, so just charge the ones you have. get a grip for the A700, improves the feel of the camera even more:D

Nice :) I'll charge my other battery tonight and hopefully if I get it the A200s battery can go straight in and the A700 battery can go on charge while I'm away :) My friend seemed pretty certain about buying my A200 but if he ends up not buying it then they're VERY sellable anyway :) How much did you sell yours for?

cheers paul,i'm sure the 70-400 will fulfill my needs :D

the 18-50 is a belting lens...enjoy it,as i'm sure you will ;)

Just gotta ask this before I go out and buy the A700. The A500 which just came out isn't better is it? Someone said it was but I mean, it doesn't have the magnesium body and a load of other stuff but it has live view which is something I'd never use but is also smaller (not bothered about that) and apparently has better AF (is this true?). It does cost 100 quid more however!
