Im planning on using my A350 as a secondary camera... Might just swap the flash when needed but a v.grip is a must have imo.

Your vertical grip will be redundant but there are some good deals around on the a700 vertical grips.
just bought 1 on clearance from Calumet for £95.00 on behalf of a Dutch Dyxumer.
Don't bother looking there though - was the last in the country at that price

Just ordered my first prime lens for the a300! Got the sony 50mm 1.4 winging its way over here by Thursday, looking forward to it as Ive only got the 18-70 kit lens at the mo.

You're going to love the 50mm f1.4, a super sharp lens which obviously is great in low light. Enjoy!

Hi, as a "newbie" with an Alpha 700, I have 3 lenses at the moment:
The standard 18 - 70 zoom
Tamron 70 - 300 macro
Sigma 35 - 70 from my old Minolta Dynax
I would love a prime lens, to use for portraits, and was wondering if anyone could recommend any of the other Minolta lenses, because there seem to be a lot on E Bay at good prices.
Andy.

How many of us Sony users come from Nikon/Canon DSLRs?

Just wondering what differences you found?

A700 has got quite a loyal following, especially when people are going out to get another as a back-up!

Thanks Stan, I wish that I had got into this a year ago, but as they say - hindsight and all that.;)

Just got to tell the wife now. :help:
giljotiini.gif

glad to see i'm not the only one living dangerous :naughty::lol:

You should have seen my wife's face when I told her that I had bought the Sony.;)
Of course, I had to make up for it by taking regular portraits of her for the first few days, and buying her Haagen Daz, and Lindt choccies.
A small price to pay I think.

At some point I have to buy a decent flash gun (I have an old Nissin, but do not want to risk it, have heard about compatibility problems), and was thinking about the Sigma (300 or 350).
Has anyone got any strong views on a good flash for the 700?
Andy.

just show her http://www.ephotozine.com/article/DSLR-group-test-11857 where the A700 takes top spot against much dearer opposition & tell her that's what you would have been paying in a couple of months for it's replacement ...

it's a shame you know that it took so long for people to realise just how good it actually is :(
I wouldn't be surprised if the A700 is doing higher sales figures now that it's on it's way out than it did in it's first 6-12 months.
Of course the original firmware didn't do it any favours re. high ISO noise but there's a lot more to a camera than just that.

I always have a good list of reasons to explain away my new purchases, but when the **** hits the fan, and I am staring possible death in the face, my excuse sounds something like - "yeah but, no but, yeah but, no but, why should I have to explain, cos like Tracy Smith down the road says it is the best, and she should know, even if she is a minger".
Seriously though, the addition of the latest Firmware was the main reason for me buying it, because that was the only thing holding it back. Some people make the lack of Live View to be a big drawback, but if you have been brought up on a diet of 35mm SLRs, then it doesn't seem to matter.

icecream and choc is a very small price to pay methinks...i dread to think what it's gonna cost me over the coming years, and thats for something that cost half as much as the 70-400
