if it's included & it's a decent 1 then it's definitely a fair price.

As the title of the post suggests, which one would you recommend?

I have an A200 at present. Hopefully be getting an A700 and using the A200 as a backup. Budget can't stretch to the Sony version -

Sigma has faster better AF, but supposed to be better optics.
i got the sigma for motocross stuff, and find it amazing... especially on the A700.

check the motorsports section, or my website(www.paspixx.com) all images are with the a700 and Siggy 70-200:D and mostly at F2.8 or F4.

Those pics are fantastic!! Certainly another vote for the Sigma. Thanks :)

I finally received my flash brackets today. Have set one up on a tripod and, using a hotshoe adaptor, (for mounting a Sony flash on a non Sony camera) mounted the flash. Now here's the problem: Because the flashgun is mounted on a Sony hotshoe connection it thinks it is mounted on a camera and will not fire wirelessly. The adaptor is necessary as the flash bracket is designed for a Canon/Nikon etc flashgun. Any ideas or have I done my money? :bang:

Enjoy Mark. Any questions, just ask.

Cheers, Marc :)

Me and Mrs. deSad are off to my parents' for tea in a short while. My Dad, who is a photography nut, doesn't yet know I've bought it. Should be a nice surprise for him ;)

No version 4 firmware built in but thanks to the link you posted, I'll download it when I get back

Toodle-pip!

nice one mark  :D

fewer than on a KM 7D ... but direct access rather than via menu is great. :)
Congrats & have fun with your new purchase.

Thanks, guys :)

Took a few test shots at my parents house tonight and viewed them on my Dad's laptop. IQ is stunning - I'm chuffed!

(Oh and Dad is soooooo jealous :D)

Firmware v4 successfully installed, too

Marc to get the sony flash to work while mounted on a third party adapter you will need to make a small indent on the adapter for the micro switch on the bottom of the flash to rest in because if the switch is depressed it will think it is mounted on the camera. If you have a look at the off camera mounting foot that came with your flash you will see the small indent. Hope this helps.

Thanks Stoneblower, will give that a go.

Saw a Sony A230 today! They look quite good, a lot smaller than the A200 but I didn't get to hold one as it was in a cabinet but yeah, looks more like a bridge camera than an SLR! Seems Sony are trying to taylor their SLRs to even more people now. Does anyone know if the A230 has actually replaced the A200? I hope not!

In other news, my minolta 28mm 'should' be coming tomorrow :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

And finally.........I picked up an a700 and Sony 70-300g ssm yesterday......yippee !!!!!

Niiiiiiiiiiiice :D I'd love an A700!

I was looking at the bottom end Sony 70-300mm a few weeks ago but wasn't sure it would be better than the Tamron alternative. Anyway, post some sample shots ASAP! :)

The A700 is a beast of a camera!

I bought one on Saturday

'First Light' (as they say in astronomical circles) will be this Saturday at Chester Zoo. Can't wait!! :)

the A700 is a stonking camera, been nothing but praise for motorsport pics from it. 1 improvement would be more AF points, and AF more like 1d:gag::love:

just need to replace the kit lens with something better now:D

Hello everybody havent been on here for a while but today went to a small camera shop near me and ended up buying a HVL-F36AM Flashgun for £130.

Now two questions is the flashgun any good? was £130 a good price second hand??

Ive already got a Jessops flashgun so this should be a step up.

I can't answer your questions (my apologies for that) but I'd like, if I may, to ask you a question:

Is the Jessops flash-gun any good? :)

To be honest it looks like a good flashgun but I have no instructions for it so havent really got the best out of it.

it's a good gun but imo £130 was probably a bit over the top for s/h - you can buy a new 42AM (adds swivel) for £157 delivered from Amazon & a "new" old stock 36AM for~£145 elsewhere.

Thanks for the reply the flashgun is as new theres not a mark on it and I cant see myself using the swivel on thr 42AM so Im not sure what to do but the good news is with in about 5 minuets I was taking good pictures with it and am very happy with it.

Not sure what to do now I can always take it back and make out I thought it had swivel or something.

In other news, my minolta 28mm 'should' be coming tomorrow :D

It arrived this morning and I have taken many pictures with it already :) The colour reproduction is excellent and images are coming out sharp, the lens itself is quite a heavy solid compact little thing and is made out of metal and the AF is VERY fast! Here are some sample shots I took this afternoon from it.

Best battery for my buck?

The Duracell Supreme AA 2650mAh look good for the price at only £5.49 for a pack of 4.

Anybody used them or know of any good batteries??

:D

I've been to Chester Zoo today to try out my new A700 :)

Here's a pic I took (through glass and in low light) of some primates grooming each other. Enjoy! :D
