Got my camera at long last went for the a350 in the end, having lots of fun playing with it in manual mode :D shame about the weather havent been outside with it yet :woot:

Finally got my Epson R2880 today, was supposed to get it back in October but my mind told me to wait for the price to drop. Well, it has, I got it for a tad over £400 - still expensive I know but I have some photos from my A700 that I want on A3 size paper sooner rather than later.

So far I'm just printing off some images as you do with a new printer to find the optimum settings for colour and brightness etc.

Also just ordered some more genuine Epson ink - think I'll stick with this stuff and not get the compatibles in future like I used sometimes for my old R300 printer. Although a set of 9 inks will be expensive..... never mind.

I have the 50mm f1.4 and it really is a cracking little lens. I've never used the Minolta f1.7 version so I can't give you a comparison.

marc, do u have any indoor pictures takin with the 50mm? im thinking of getting it to replace the kit lens, for outdoor/street and indoor stuff?
ill need 2 get pictures uploaded from my 1st attempt with the flash aswell, see whats to be improved:lol:

To be honest I haven't. I haven't actually used it for quite a while (Yes, I know I said it was a great lens and it is. :D). Wished I had it in London yesterday, the f1.4 would have come in very handy.

Would it be reccomended over the kit lens? for night time/low light stuff?

best give it to me then...along with your A700 :D

anyway, what i meant was perhaps something like the 24-70 F/2.8 might be better as a walkabout lens

I know what you meant but where's the fun in that? :p

Yes, agree that the 24-70 would probably be the better walkabout lens, but for low light the 50mm f1.4 really comes into its own. I was using the 24-70 yesterday, but I really regretted leaving the 50 at home. :(

oops..i missed the fact that PAS wanted it for mostly low light/nightime togging, and assumed he just wanted to replace his kit lens :bonk:

i have the 50mm F/1.7 prime, and although i've not used it much..it's a belter of a lens for not much money...

Recently I had to take some pictures inside a church. Took the 18-70 and 50 f1.7 with me. Didn't really want to use the flash in the church, so stuck the 50 on, after about 10 minutes changed to the 18-70, the 50 was just not wide enough.
So I suppose it all depends where you want to use it. I have actually only used my 50 on about 20 or so pictures out of the 4000 I have taken so far.

Iv just gone and bought myself a sigma 10-20mm :woot: cant wait to see what sort of results I get!

All this impulse buying is killing me but im loving it  just wondering now whether I should keep my kit lens as I doubt it will ever get used now that I got Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 now...

WOOO HOOOOOO!!!

Just ordered my sony a200!

should be here christmas eve!

Right what is the 1st lens(cheap) i should buy?

Matt

Did you just get the body? I might sell my kit lens 18-70mm as I have just bought a Tamron 17-50mm let me know if your interested.

Well, the excursion to Canon was short lived and a total waste of time :amstupid: ... so all the Canon gear up for sale and decided to stick with Sony and upgrade the A350 kit.

Anyone wanting rid of an A700 + Grip?

is a MINOLTA AUTO FOCUS 35-80MM ZOOM LENS any good and will it fit the alpha 200???

I actually have one of these as it was given to me with a Minolta film camera. Yes, it will fit your Alpha but I can tell you how good it is but I will run off a few shots with the A700 tomorrow and post the results here.

mattmo,
hope u enjoy the a200.... its a gd camera for the £, id recommend a battery grip for it, dependin how it feels to you. the sony 75-300mm lens is a good 1, i may be selling mine soon though - going to get the 70-200G:D

there's just no educating some folk,marc :bonk::lol:

mattmo...just a thought, but why bother getting a 35-80 when you've already covered most of that range with your 18-70 kit lens
 very new to this lens malarky:thinking:
