Not heard of any problems with the a200 and the Sigma 70-300, heard about it a few times with the a700.
Mine has never had any problems with this, but it is an older version of it.

Guys whats a Minolta AF 75-300mm f/4.5-5.6 lens worth used? Need a answer pretty sharpish if possible :D

new or second hand?

i'm not familiar with the minolta lens, but i had the sony 75-300 F/4.5-5.6 and sold it "like new" for around the £80 mark to a member on here

it's what it's worth to you that matters though ;)

Iv just paid £80 for a minolta lens like new all boxed etc... maybe I should of waited a bit for a sony one oh well...

Holy cow, whats going on?! Only 2 weeks ago a sony a200 could be had for £198 with discounts. Now its £280 before cashback?!!! Where have these price hikes come from?!

If you guys are considering buying more equipment soon, maybe better to wait and see if the retailers discount the VAT by 2.5% as they should do........if they play fair.

If jessops are doing what i think they are, a200 goes up in price for 30 days, just in time to "crash" the price the week before xmas... So looks like boxing day sales will have some price cuts.

i was in cameraworld in london yesterday..getting my new flashgun, and i was oh so tempted to get the A700....but i resisted temptation on this occasion.

i'm not sure how long i can hold out for though...

must.......................try....................harder!!!!!!! :D

That's fantastic news, good to know your car is thoroughly cleaned regularly! ;) What you say now is: "Jackie, you know that money I saved by not having to buy a new set of filters? Well it would have cost around the same as an A700 body and.................." :naughty:

Hello all just finished reading (part 1) and up until now in (part 2)
Should be getting the a350 in the next few weeks may buy sooner hearing about the xmas price hikes. :bonk:

This will be my first DSLR but a good choise I hope, wanting the sigma 75-300 APO as well.

car gets cleaned quite regularly, thats why i cannot believe it was found earlier.unfortunately though, what i saved by not getting a new set of filters, was spent on getting a nice shinny watch for jackie :'(

oh,and i'd already bought another filter and ring to start to replace what i'd thought i'd lost,so they will be for sale soon i suspect :)

hi and welcome...

you wil not be dissapointed with the A350..that i'm sure of

another lens you may well want to get is the minolta 50mm F/1.7...available from e-bay for around the £70 mark.it's a fantastic lens with pin sharp IQ.

Hello thanks for the welcome

Yeah the 50mm would be a good idea will keep my eyes peeled on ebay.
One question, the a300 & a350 theres £50 price difference after cashback is the a350 worth the extra £50 or should I put that money towards the 50mm or other goodies??

the only difference between the A300 and the A350 is the resolution.getting the A350 means you will be able to crop the image more without IQ being adversly affected....but ultimately, only you can decide wether it's worth the extra £50...

there's also cash back on a few other goodies like battery grips,flashguns...

Humm its a tough one could get the a300 save myself £50 then upgrade to the a700 or what ever sony will have out in a few years time, that said could just get the a350 and make the upgrade later on.
Its so hard deciding :bang: I mean would I be croping many pictures that I dont know.
Would be taking shots of wildlife/nature/landscapes

i shot my brothers wedding a few weeks back, and borrowed my daughters friends A300 to go with my A350,and there's practically no difference between them that i could tell of.also forgot to mention that apparently, the A300 is supposed to be better at handling noise at higher ISO's

choices,choices......

Humm leaning towards the a300 now I just think that £50 would help alot with buying all the other things needed like CF card, a bag, spair bat ect:
Would of gone for the a200 but I think the live view would be a must for me get those shots you wouldnt get with out it.
Thanks alot for your input stan very helpful indeed

its that word again! "noise". I've never used a dslr, and the word terrifies me! Every review seem to say the noise on sony's above 400-800 iso is unbearable! yet all the sony users here cannot say a bad word against it! Which makes me think maybe the world is canon and nikon mad!

Just reading reviews on the sony lenses as i fancy a 300mm, but the reviews for the basic model aren't that great!

OI!
Gimme back my avatar

Welcome aboard mate.

If I were you, I'd get the a300 and put the rest of your money towards another lens or accessory.
As mentioned, there's no difference at all between the two, and as stan said, the 300 apparently handles noise better......

I gotta admit, there is evidence of noise at higher ISO's, but it's nothing to be worried about.
It can be got rid of using software, and sometimes, noise actually makes a shot better......

The plus sides certainley out number the minus sides of the Alpha range.....

I Accidentally left the ISO at 800 on this shot. I don't see any major ISO issue with it.

ive got a few pictures at ISO 3200, ill post them up 2moro, didnt look 2 bad 2 me:p

I'm starting to get Canon envy.....all their lenses on Ebay are cheaper. :'(

HI guys & girls. I am hoping you can help me out here. I have been looking to purchase my first DSLR now for the last month or so. I have been to Jessops and also a local shop to hold and get a feel of each camera I have been looking at. I am on a tight budget of £270. Currentley I have a Fuji Finepix 5800 and also use my moms Canon EOS 350. I like the feel of the canon but also like the Sony 200 alot :)
The only question I have is that in some of the reviews I have read it says to stay clear of the 200 if you are going to use it for Motorsport i.e. fast moving objects???????

I use my camera for motorsport prob. 95% of the time but don't use continious shooting very often.

What are your thoughts and could somebody show me some shots inc. panning shots of motorsport using the 200. Many thanks in advance.

Got my cashback cheque from Sony today for my flashgun, so might have to put that £30.00 to a verticle grip and get another cashback deal on that

Guys going to get the Sony VGB30AM very soon, so far the cheapest I think I can get it for is £100 after cashback... Is it worth waiting a few more weeks or do you think the prices will come down even more before 31 Dec 08?

hi sturs...if i'm correct, the A200 does 3FPS,which is what my A100 used to do,and it managed okay when i did motorcycle meets with it.if i'm honest,i'd say the only failing of the camera was "ME".sure, some of the pro spec cameras have a higher FPS,but you pay for that in spending an awful lot more than the £270 you've allocated.

here's a couple i took with my A100....bear in mind though, that i'm still learning, and the camera was capable of better than this....

mmmmmm......a toughy that.i'm not sure it will come down much more,if at all.

bear in mind though,if you leave it too late, you could miss out on the £30 cashback.

sent my form off today after buying the HVL-F42AM flashgun...how long did you wait for them to send you your cheque?

I got my cheque today erm it didnt take long must have been about week and half...

EDIT

Thanks for the advise Stan, there seems nothing wrong with those pics mate. Like you say it seems I can't go wrong with the A200 for the budget I am looking for. Any other advise, tips or info on the A200?????

another big bonus with the A200(as with all the alpha's)is the super steady shot image stabilisation being "in camera",so there's no need to buy expensive lens with on board image stabilisation.most of the other cameras at this level are very similar in their features....

hI FOLKS...

Can anyone guide me about

Tamron AF 28-200mm f/3.8-5.6 (IF) Sony AFSpecial

This lens costs around 50 quids so thinking of getting this on the new A300..

Can this be general walk around lens...

How is the performance??

Alternately Since I have Kit lens

How about sigma/Tokina/SONY 75-300mm f4.5-5.6 AF..

Any feedback opinion..

cheers

hi ajex
the only lens i have experience of in your list is the sony 75-300 F/4.5-5.6,and at it's price bracket...it's a good lens.

here's a review of the tamron 28-200,which would make a good walk around lens with it's focal range...for what purpose do you want the lens?for sport and wildlife,i'd recommend something in the 70(75)-300 range....

http://www.fredmiranda.com/reviews/showproduct.php?product=253&sort=7&cat=43&page=1

hope this helps

Stan Many thanks for the input...

I need it for mainly wild life and nature on a new a300

As I already have the kit lens so may be will go in for Sigma 70-300mm f/4-5.6 DG Macro SuperII Sony AF which costs less than 100 if the quality is more or less at par with Sony!!!

Another option is Tamron AF 55-200mm f/4-5.6 Di II LD Macro Sony AFD which is available at 70 quids..

Probably extra 30 quids worth spending for additional 100mm..

Perused the previous thread and has wealth of information...

I know beercan is highly recommended but their prices seem to have rocketed on Ebay..

May be later on will go for Minolta 50-1.7 prime

cheers

Ajex
