OH NO!! I have only gone and created a thread for all the Sony A700 users!

Feel free to discuss the in's and out's of the A700. Where to find bargains, must have add-ons, what sort of setup you have, what features you like or dislike etc.

A700 user from Notts?! Where the hell have you been

Hmm, are we not going a little far here? Personally I see no need to split from the other Sony users, the information and experience we can share would be of benefit to users of other Sony cameras. I wouldn't want to see A350 owners, for example, miss out because they're not looking in the A700 thread.

The cameras do vary a lot and those other threads are 100s of pages long... I say let the members vote and if they want then keep it then use it, if not then im happy for site staff to remove or close thread... If people use the search feature they shouldnt really miss out on any information in any case...

I was posting as a forum member, not as a moderator. Just giving my opinion, can't see any reason for closing the thread.

Lets see how it goes, the other thing is the A700 and A900 have alot more features compared to the A200 and A350 for example computer control... I would love to see more discussion about this...

I believe a dedicated thread is the best way forward :)

more than happy to partake in other threads but having upgraded to A700 would be good to have a one stop thread.

So.....

The A700 , is it discontinued now? , if so is the new replacement going to be as ugly as the new ones? (my opinioon of course)

According to Sony site it hasnt been discontinued.

they aren't making any more though ... ;)
it won't be officially discontinued until Sony have shifted all their warehouse stock.

Shall we start a Sony a300 site as well. :bang:
you could have an A200/A300 & A350 thread as they are so closely related. Similarly the A850/A900 are close enough that you could have a thread for those & no doubt the A500/A550 could share a thread. the A700 however is unique & quite different from any of the others.

Used my A700 yesterday at a engagement party and I was surprised how much better it is compared to the A350... I love the continous shoot mode at 5fps! Just need to get some more longer lasting rechargables for my flashgun as it was in over drive!

I had another learning day yesterday..took my A700 to dsanta pod and then to a car meet later on..I really need a lot more practise doing panning thats for sure..

same here..rally at pembrey in south wales, and my panning shots were pretty bad :bonk:.i think i'll stand on a motorway and get some practice ;)

61.54% of voters agreed we should keep this thread... looks like we are on to a winner  its ashame it doesnt get used much... guess camera specific talk is limited after all.

Any one want to share A700 hints and tips etc?

BTW Gary Friedman A700 ebook can be purchased in PDF format from http://friedmanarchives.com/alpha700/index.htm for $24.95 USD

Has there been any updates to the tethered shooting software? I tried it for the first time on the weekend and found it a bit limited. I can't see why you can't select focus points, shooting mode etc from the computer but on the version I have you can't. I've not tried anything from the other manufacturers but I do think the software is basic.

Conversely I love the fact that I now have tethered shooting, it was a massive help to me although it seems that having the camera switched on for a long time caused hot pixel problems which had to be cloned out later.

What version of software are you using? I havent installed the disc I got with mine but I can check to see if its a different version if that helps?

Question: Anyone shooting in .jpg extra fine image quality? Is it worth keeping it set to extra fine noticed it does take up a lot more space comapred to standard...

What lenses do you guys have and use on the a700. I have Sigma 18-125, Minolta f4 Beercan, Tamon 90mm f2.8 Macro and a Tamron 70-300mm.

Wishlist includes, Tamron 17-50 f2.8 and Simga 10-20 f3.5.

i loved my equivalent tamron 28-75 f2.8 on my a300, but the a700 low light capabilities looks good
