Hi all,

My niece is having issues with maths and her confidence with it, I was asked to help as maths is kinda my thing and I taught it to younger years while at school. What I don't have is any real knowledge of teaching this level as 16 year olds can reason if you explain it slowly enough but she's 7 so its a bit different.

Also I don't have a concrete syllabus to start from as they don't have textbooks (at least that they bring home). I suspect this one of actually being the syllabus in Singapore - govt IT is a mess I haven't found the UK syllabus yet

Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers,
David

i see your in exeter uni.

trago mills sell all the sats books for 7 year olds. cheaper than whsmiths but they should have them as well.

also if you go on the 'st michaels school kingsteignton' website and scroll down to learning at home [or it might say teaching] there are lots of stuff on there for all ages.

should get you started.

googling the school, got some of the books I think but I was looking for a real syllabus like I used to use for GCSE and A level (good shout about trago I know the place well: D)

she's finishing year two, I think they are at the end of this year coming though I will confirm with my sis

I couldn't find any homeschooling info on that schools site :S

if she is finishing year two she should of taken her sats and had the results through.

there is no home schooling on the site but lots of maths quizes etc to help her.

ok i am on here most days and will check the thread or pm me for any info....

It might be worthwhile asking over on the forum at www.raisingkids.co.uk/talk
I can guarantee you'll get a heck of alot of info there, there are a few homeschooling parents too.

thanks for the link Marcel been reading it for the last half hour.....very good site.

Have you tried the BBC website - they have some stuff on the Bitesize bit.
