Calling all Canon 450d Users!!

Welcome to the forum scrag..

There's a thread Nifty Fifty on tour.. it's being sent around the forums to for a tour (duh).. I'm next onthe list yay! Can't wait to try it out.. wish I had it before I went to Hong Kong though..

Added a gorilla pod to my list after a trip to HK woohoo!

On tour?! What does this mean then?

I ordered my first additional lens for the 450D this weekend, the Canon 55-250mm IS lens along with a lens hood. Still looking to get the nifty at some point but I'm really excited about getting this lens and hopefully it'll give me more incentive to get out there with the camera :)

This was the second lens I bought for my 450D ( the 50MM being the first ).
Its an excellent choice, not too expensive and really great sharp images.
The thing that really grabbed me with this lens is how well the IS actually works. I`d never had a long lens with IS before and was really impressed to say the least.

I did exactly the same thing. After getting the 450d I ordered the 55-250. I use this lens the vast majority of the time. I agree with everything Bagger has said.

Ditto!
It's a cracking lens for the price, 'a must have lens' for 450D owners imo.

when i bought my 450D i bought the 55-250mm IS USM lens from the off, just recently (6weeks ago) bought myself a nifty fifty and have hardy used it.....

Didn't take long, arrived already :D As soon as the weather clears up a bit and I've got a bit more time I'll have a walk to the local park and get some pictures taken with it :)

...to both this site, and having a dslr. Had my 450 D a couple of weeks... still sussing it out. Will post a pic or two when I have taken something half decent! ;)

The list grows longer.
Welcome to the new owners of the 450D :D

Like Sir Hoot I am new to this site and new to having a DSLR. I have the kit lens and the 55-250 IS lens and I have to say I am very pleased with it so far. I am looking forward to learning how to use it without it being on the auto settings all the time. LOL

A good start is a book called 'understanding exposure', a lot of people have found it very useful.
It would soon help you like it has for so many of us when it comes to the fear of leaving 'auto settings' :)

hey guys, i'm back! now i have the internet again! Not taken many pics, still working things out! Took what i thought was a great close up picture of the dog at 18mm, and it was blurry! so not got the aperture's right yet!

Was gonna get a nifty fifty, but its gone up from £51 to £81... So think i'll stick with my 55-250mm for the time being!

Thanks for the advice hash cake. I will take a trip to waterstones over the next few days and grab a copy.

I got mine on Saturday
Took me ages to read up on which camera to get and i got it right
I think!
Its my first DSLR camera and I will be going out for the day tomorrow / Friday on my days off to go photo hunting
Any one got any good spots for landscape/buildings in around Liverpool
I am into old buildings so let me know if you can let me know ASAP
All the best peeps
Quedash

Any one got any good spots for landscape/buildings in around Liverpool.

Liverpool is full of culture and old buildings.
I've never been there but I can think of a few places to visit like the docks and the Liver building for instance.
Just don't bother with the old Brookside set :D
Oh and welcome to the 450D owners club!

Nice one Hashcake
Try parking in the albert dock
you got to get there the night before, its mad
funny how you have things on your own doorstep, and just breeze past them everyday

Like nelson or westminster, tower bridge, and the queens house detached I am told must be posh.
Maybe we can do a swop
Thanks again, I am enjoying my camera more than i thought
Cheers

It's the same for most major Cities.
Even though I live in North London when it comes to centrol London, I use the tube and buses.
Oh, and a swap sounds a good idea, I'm bored of photographing London :D

Your a good'in m8y and welcome anytime
I am trying to get to grips with HDR can't make my mind up if I prefer night shots instead, less hassle
Still its time to catch some ZZzzzzz

Back soon folks
cheers

mine has been around for 8 months so far, and i think really likes it. Sometime ago was trying to change to other brand but after thought about it ... i think i'll stock around with it for a moment ...

cheers,

Got the 450 last week and added Sigma 18-200 + Nifty in lens collection. I've another £200 to spend on lens.

Which one is best for that money? Sigma 18-50 / Tamron 17-50 any good?

Thank you everyone

Would you not be better off with a zoom lens or another prime lens - you've got a lot of the focal range covered with the 18-200m, and you'd be duplicating the wide lengths with either the tamron or the sigma??

Having taken some close up shots of the dogs face the other day, think i need a flash!

Also, does anyone know what aperture i should be using? 60W bulb near the dog, about 30cm from her face at 18mm.. think i was using 4.0, and everything was out of pin sharp focus except the middle of her nose?!

You should get away using the built in flash and still get a decent picture of the dog.
What mode were using the camera in, A/V?
It's hard to tell without seeing the picture, if you upload it we could have a look at the exif data.

It's a bit late now but I presume you also have the kit lens?
If so I wouldn't have bothered with the Sigma 18-200 and gone for the Canon 55-250mm IS lens it's a great lens for the price.

onboard flash is ok sometimes, i used a 1" strip off the middle of a plastic milk bottle. Loops in front of the on board flash and it throws the flash over the lens, if you get my drift.

2 very nice pictures and great bokeh on the dog.
I took a similar shot our cat.

I don't have the kit lens, just nifty-fifty, a kenko 2x & Sigma 18-200. I don't mind selling off 18-200 for a better quality one. Any advice :) ?

Main purpose of camera kit is just to take picture of my DIY projects / home cinema and any interesting stuff near workplace in baker street

The kit lens? and maybe an external flash?

18-55mm? Others have been recommending other lenses but yeah i am thinking of getting good shots in the outdoors first and then indoors with photography equipment..

The nifty fifty (Canon EF 50mm f1.8 II) is a popular choice for doing portraits.
You'll find plenty of people on the forums who own one and rate the quality of the photos they take when using one.
A dedicated flash gun would also be a wise choice as someone has already stated.

Outdoor photography and indoor photography need different skills imo.
I like doing outdoor photography as a preference and I think to a certain degree, it's easier to get to grips with than indoor photography.
You plan of attack makes sense to me, I am now slowly trying more indoor photography since I have gained more understanding of the 450D and settings.

Well it's all a matter of cost I guess.
I've ordered a Canon 430EX II from Amazon as their current price is very good (£172).
The 580EX II is just too expensive for me as my first decent flash gun.
I don't know if you are aware but because the pounds is currently very weak against the yen, the likes of Canon, Nikon et all have started to raise their prices.
The Nifty Fifty has gone up around £20 and, the 430EX II have gone up by £25-£30
This is nothing compared to the price hikes on most lenses.
In my opinion now is the time to buy if you can get a good price or otherwise wait and hope the prices drop when the pounds and yet sort themselves out.
