Yes
I have a Macbook pro running CS3, an Acer F20 LCD monitor and Spyder Elite 3. The Acer LCD has brightness, contrast and RGB slider options but when it comes to calibration the things are driving me nuts!:bang:

I know laptop calibration is not the best but what I see on the two screens are quite different. I would be happy to get the corret setting on the F20 but noshow there in comparison to what prints out! I'm using the correct paper profile and I'm letting CS3 take care of the colour management. What am I doing wrong or what haven't I done?

Maybe this is something that could be improved with a device like a Huey?

I don't know for sure as I just use it with one monitor, but in theory it will adjust the display colours via monitor profile settings rather than the monitors RGB controls?

I'm using the Spyder 3 Elite calibration tool on the monitor. I was hoping for great things but somehwere along the line somthing is amiss.

Tressie are you trying to run the Acer and the macbook at the same time? If so this may be the problem.

Hi Chappers, yes I am. I'm running the Acer through the MacBook

You may then have problems making the 2 match, The Acer has one set of characteristics the macbook another.

However you could try this to get something approaching acceptable .

On the Acer get the unit back to factory defaults. It makes life easier.

Now tell the Spyder calibrate the monitor, as though you had no user controls ( I think the spyder will do that). Now save the profile.

Does this make things look better ( hopefully). really what you need to do is profile each monitor seperatly and generate a profile for each. Now I don't think the Mac book Pro will support 2 monitors profiles with its video chip ( I may be wrong) . But what you need to do is switch profiles when you use either the mac as a stand alone or with the Acer. I don't think it's possible to get both displays to match.

I've got 2 Dell displays running off one card. One is a 19" and the other is a 24". The 24" is my main tool and it's the one I calibrate. The 19" was my main unit and is now running the tools from Photoshop, and the alternative views from Lightroom. I have to use the same profile for each as I only have one video card. It's not a problem as the 19" is not used for critical work. However the 2 displays don't match, they are reasonably close but not identical.

I think you may have to put up with one display not matching the other, when used together I'm afraid.

Thanks for the help Chappers. I've just followed your advice and I think it's as near as I'm going to get it. Much better than it was although like you say not perfect. At least prints are looking like the screen now. I tend to use the Acer more so I'll stick with that calibration. Thanks again

I know on the normal Macbook you can have separate profiles for the laptop screen and a second monitor as that is what I have, however you do need to rename the profile created by the spyder, unless it is one that supports two monitors...
