Calibrating an iMAc screen with Huey Pro

I got a Huey Pro for Christmas and I'm trying to calibrate my iMac screen. The Software tell you to adjust the contrast and brightness so the top half looks the same as the bottom half of a circle.

I have found the brightness in settings>display but can't find the contrast anywhere.

Any suggestions?

You need to do this via the calibration controls in system prefs.

Open up the monitor option in sys prefs and the select calibration. Skip through everything until you reach the gamma setting It's about 6 or 7 steps in.

It can be a bit hit and miss as you need to toggle back and forth. Good news is that it seems that the iMac screen is fairly stable so you probably won't need to do it that often. Aim for a Gamma of around 2.2

Thanks John, I have got nowhere getting the circles to look the same so I have gone for a Gamma of 2.2 like you suggested.

It is now done and the monitor looks very blue to me, but I guess that could be because it was very orange before?

I've never found getting matching grids or circles to get a desired effect a good method.

What white point did you select. Aim for D65 or 6500K ( they are effectively the same).

Don't go or Native white point it will probably be very blue.

The screen should look fairly neutral after you have viewed it for a few minutes. If it still looks blue then maybe reconsider the white point. Don't forget the viewing conditions will effect how you see the screen.

Thanks John, it is D65, although I didn't select that, it seemed to set it itself.
The blueness is growing on me, I guess it must have just been very orange when uncalibrated...
