Calibrated Monitor?

So ive been trying to find out everything I can when it comes to printing and mounting photos as I would like to start selling some prints, but now I have come across another problem. I ordered a test print from DCSL which were print good quality although didnt quite match the print I ordered from Photobox. Anyway i noticed a few times now that prints are slightly darker then they look on my screen, I learnt that this could be due to not having a properly calibrated monitor?? Could someone help explain this issue, also Im looking into ordering a new Mac soon, will this come with proper calibrated monitor or is it something I will have to solve with that also?? any help would be great. I just wanna start mounting some prints!!

It will help if you can let us know what operating system you are currently running but yes calibration is something that you should be checking on a regular basis

Also with mac because of the nature of the gloss screen you may need check the contrast as the glossy screen can make the blacks a little too contrasty if not correctly calibrated :shrug:

Right if you got to the Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Display you should have the option to calibrate colours click that and follow the instructions

I use Win7 64bit but doubt it will be any different to to the calibration
