calendar order

Warning: another rant thread from me.

Let's start with the lesson - you get what you pay for! And that's why the clients should not be allowed to print as this is exactly what they will get and the photographer will be to blame for it!

So I have received my calendars from KGB deal printed at Winston and Harry.
It took me a while to order as they messed up the deal. The link was for A3 but only worked when I changed to A4 - not happy.

Fast forward to this morning when I received the order.

The calendars look dirt CHEAP, printed on thin paper using some kind of poor miscalibrated printer. The colours are so poor, and all the shadows are clipped.
They are probably best for scrap paper.

Last year I used vista print, and while they were not perfect (too dark, and had a newspaper rather than high end print look) at least they weren't this far off and were printed on a much better quality paper. I was happy to give them as presents... not the new ones!



So what do you use for calendars and similar gifts? DSCL?
I want them look like the high street calendars.

Last year I used Aldi (shock horror!) for some late Christmas presents, and was pleasantly surprised by the quality. They were slightly dark if anything, but I couldn't find much else wrong. Perfectly adequate for Christmas presents.

This year I used WEX - the paper is much heavier than the Aldi ones and the exposure is better.

Just my £0.02 - these are my only experiences with calendars so I don't have a great deal to judge against. Both Aldi and WEX seemed to me to be the equal of "high street" ones apart from maybe the last nth degree of contrast perhaps.
