A 4 on a calculator was as close as you could get to a k.

My grasp on French is fairly poor. I put this down to my French teachers being either Welsh or Irish and a lot of the pronunciation getting lost in the accent. Oh and a total lack of interest in having to learn French.
 
Being dyslexic does not stop you from operating a calculator, my daughter has issues with numbers, simple maths at that, the use of a calculator which I assure you, she can use correctly without hitting the wrong numbers...allows her to do the jobs that you fortunate people take for granted...really, I find some of these posts quite shocking

Nope...just read the whole thread again to make sure I was not jumping the gun...still am quite shocked at the complete lack of understanding of people who have to use a calculator for simple maths [emoji106]
 
I don't think the incredulity expressed in this thread was in anyway aimed at those who have a genuine difficulty with numeration.

More those individuals who are just downright lazy or couldn't be bothered to learn the basic skills at school.

So many youngsters these days appear to be just plain dopey, not really sure why, but basic numeracy and literacy standards do seem to be declining.
 
I'm dyslexic myself I'm sure you've noticed :) but I can add a nought to the end of a figure when multipling it by ten! It's no calculations needed with this one which was the whole point of the thread.

Dyslexia isn't related to numbers at all.
Dyscalculia is.
My middle brother is severely dyslexic, but almost genius at mathematics.

Dyslexia or Dyscalculia, it's irrelevant, my daughter is severely dyslexic and she does suffer with numbers, to the point where she would not have been able to do the sum in question without the use of a calculator.

My point being, people should not judge, I accept that some people clearly didn't pay attention at school, or were failed etc etc however their are people who try there damn hardest yet still need assistance with aids to help them achieve a task that you or I could do with little thought and quite possibly...take for granted.

Of course, this is a subject quite close to me and I am fully aware and accept that people have there own views and opinions and rightly so, I don't hold this against anyone therefore in the words of a dragon, to save the thread....I'm out [emoji106]

And so is my daughter ;) I fully appreciate that people have different abilities. Hence I'm all up for making best use of those abilities. It's a positive thing not the negativity you seem to choose to Interpret it with.

If someone is unable to do a sum which most can do in there head, does that make them any less of a person, no !!!
Regardless of the issue they may or may not have, doesn't give people the right to mock them just because they are fortunate enough to be able not to have these barriers, it's that bloody simple, I thought this forum was full of decent adults, clearly it's not, just sarcastic keyboard warriors

Because the difference between Dyslexia and Discalculia isn't irrelevant, especially to those who have one or the other, but are constantly assumed by the uneducated to have both.

My brother grew up in a time when Dyslexia was barely recognised by the education system, and even having it diagnosed involved lengthy, privately sourced and expensive testing.
Before diagnosis, he was simply labelled by his teachers as a lazy thick troublemaker, despite the fact that he excelled in mathematics, technical drawing, metalwork etc.
Even after diagnosis, he was dumped into remedial maths classes because it was assumed that his Dyslexia interfered with his numerical skills too, which it does not.

The difference between Dyslexia and Dyscalculia is far from irrelevant, and people who think it is, are the people capable of setting the understanding of both conditions back decades.
 
It would appear that we are in the same boat, we too had to fork out £££ to get the proper assessment from Helen Arkhell centre and Its IRRELEVANT as to what a person has in terms of this thread as mocking someone who has ANY barriers is damn right out of order...this is what I mean by irrelevant, hope that has made it clear.

My apologies if I fell in feet first.
He may be 50 now and a successful engineer, but I remember his utter heartbreak.
I'm sure your daughter too will find her niche in the future. :-)
 
At last...we understand [emoji23], it's been a tough journey to get her to where she is now and that's why I have been the way I have, I feel very passionate about it, as I am sure you could tell...clearly crossed wires lol
 
When a student, had a summer job in a factory.

I got asked if I could count to 20?
My instant reply was "No, but I can count to 10, so I'll do that twice."
"Oh.. um, yeah I suppose that is OK"

Nobody was mocking anyone :god: on the contrary. Perhaps there is a comprehension issue as I most definitely not said what you seem to want to interpret.
