Hi There Everyone,

Got a quiery that I need answering tonight please if possible :D

I'm off to CadWest tomorrow (as it's my B'day :) woop woop)

My question is;
1) Does anyone near the area know what the weathers like at the moment and a slight prediction about tomorrows weather :D
I have checked with MetOffice and BBC Weather and both say light showers with some sunlight, anyone want to say if this is good enough weather to go in?

2) Would my 70-200 F2.8 be long enough? Or will I have to resort to my 28-300mm F3.5-6.3?

Cheers
Jamie

PS: Any other information regarding my trip would be great

try accuweather ukie. I find them much more accurate and they do hour-by-hour forecasts. type in a postcode that is close to the sight. (a BnB/farm will do!). My gran who lives near-by said that it was a bit rainy today, but apparently a bit better tomorow?

Dunno the answer to q2 though, I haven't been up there yet! good luck, and most importantly....

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!;):D:banana::clap::lol:. have a  on me!

Jamie...

You maybe ok tomorrow with regard to the weather. Best to always take waterproof equipment with you just in case you get caught out. Your 200mm lens is a little on the short side but may be a good choice for someone out for the first time. Your best bet is to head up quite high, a lot of newbies still stay well too low.

Good luck,

Mark

P.S. Remember to slow your shutter speed down if any props come through ;)

I agree with MJ,

200 is a little on the short side but tbh I think you'll be fine with it on Cad West, I'd look to be maybe 30 meters down from the style at the top of the hill (you'll understand when you get there) - that way you'll be close enough to get decent hawk shots and you'll be well placed if anything comes through higher / faster / bigger

Hope that helps, top tip, keep your eyes and ears open =D its usually better if there is more than one person there.

Good Luck,
-Rob

Thanks for all the comments everyone :D

I will definately get up high, any good spots to look out for?

Weather-proofing will be definately going as I expect it to rain, as after all it is the UK.

Aleksander - will check out that website :) And looking good for tomorrow :) Will definately have a drink though when I am back of course

Mark - good to hear from someone with good experience, I was hoping the 200mm will be alrite for a first time (hoping for a 300mm F4 and 1.4x for xmas :P)

Cheers

There's me and my girlfriend going tomorrow, definately all ears and eyes wide open :D

Hoping for a Herc, love the things but never see one that's photo worthy so definately want a shot of that :)

Yes I understand about the style, been doing lots of research rather than actually going there

glad to be of help, better see some nice shots up here!

haha
I will definately post them up, as I always look for comments to help me improve :)

Hope it goes well, and if the weather is very poor and I dont see a plane you are personally responsible

Thanks Cheesy :)

Glad to hear from you, should be a good day tomorrow then by the looks of things :)

Jamie, Ill be there tomorrow, see you up there :)

Try to be up on the hill for 9AM, don't want you missing anything.

Cheesy, send the boys through.

Hi There Xup

I'm setting off a 5am, means I get there for 7:10am apparently :P
I'll be wearing either a grey Skegness Leavers Hoodie, or a Blue Staffordshire University Hoodie.

Check your PM's very shortly!!

Going to be very windy there tomorrow, best to place yourself over the fence, down the bank a bit facing the incoming aircraft, you'll get shelter from the wind that way.

Bring something to sit on as it will be wet there tomorrow from the over night rain, bin liner will do.

I'll be up on the Hill by 9, in a red coat with a big Lens :) shoulder mounted.

Martin

Hi There Everyone,
Thanks for all your info regarding CadWest.

Was sat up in the mountains today, and guess what?

Yes you got it, thick clouds and rain, and did not see one plane all day  Typical.

It's not put me off though, I think I shall be making another trip in May when the weather is better :)

Seen it, been there, done that and bought the t-shirt :bang:.

Unlucky mate, thats the nature of this game one day you get em non stop, the next nothing and its not always the weather .

Keep at it, your day will come .

It happens Jamie. The last time I was up there we had gales, rain, snow storms and clear blue skies, all in one day. That was October. Then when the aircraft did come at about 2.15pm, I messed up my focussing. I had moved the switch on the D300 without realising. :bonk:
But I still had a brilliant day! :D

Happy Birthday!!!

Kev.

Cheers everyone
I know it's a hit and miss game.

Just will have to go again and practise :)

Really enjoyed it though.
