I'll be traveling a lot over the summer months and need suggestions for a cabin bag that maximises volume while keeping within size constraints.

Most flights will be on Singapore airlines and their subsidiaries (particularly Silk Air) so maximum dimensions cannot exceed 115cm / 7kg.

My preference is for a backpack with wheels and it will have to be hard wearing as it will carry a lot more than 7kg on a daily basis.

Any practical experience very much appreciated.

Do you really need wheels? In my experience they add a lot to the weight and rob you of storage since they eat into your useable volume. I travel on business quite a lot and use a soft hold-all type bag. It maximises the space available, weighs next to nothing when empty. Most airports have free luggage trolleys if you need to wheel it along.

Wandered into the Samsonite luggage store today and got a pretty good one. Probably better than buying unseen online.

i like the north face duffels as they can be worn as a rucksac or carried like a bag - i have always hated wheeled bags!

I agree and they are really tough,
