Cabin Luggage friendly Tripod - Suggestions please

I will be travelling to Nice this weekend on Easyjet. My current Hama Star 62 tripod won't fit into the Easyjet spec and If I put it diagonally, I won't have much space left for other things in my Easyjet complaint cabin bag.

I am looking for some suggestions on a good travel tripod (with quick release plate or quick release ball head) that can fit within Easyjet specification and not take up much space.

Here's what I am looking for

1. Folded Height - max 45 cm with carry bag
2. Carrying Capacity - Max 3 kg
3. Weight - within a kg
4. Camera Kit I would use - Nikon D5100 and Nikon 18-70, 50mm F1.8G and 85 F1.8G
5. Max budget £40, but would be great if I can get it for less.

Appreciate some suggestions and recommendations. I would like to buy from Amazon using my Prime membership, so any link to Amazon site will be super.

TBH, it's not really up to Easyjet as to what's allowed as hand baggage, it's a security question. Like it or not, a tripod can be used as a weapon and some have spikes on the feet rather than ferules. Check with the security at both ends to see what's allowable and ideally get it in writing. Personally, when I take a tripod, it goes in the hold luggage.
 
I took my tripod as hand luggage on an Easyjet flight and nobody complained. I had to take the head off and put that in my bag to get it within the cabin baggage allowance though. Even then, it was too big of their "guaranteed to travel with you" size but I've heard they rarely if ever enforce that anyway.
 
I have travelled with my tripod in my hand baggage with Norwegian, Easyjet and Ryanair, the latter two as recently as July, and have had no issues. I have a Velbon Luxi L and it does the job perfectly, but a bit above your stated budget.

We once took a Flybe flight and we were 'invited' to check our carry-ons with the gauge. It turned out they were too big by the amount the wheels stuck out at the bottom. We were given two choices: put them in the hold at a cost of £180 each, or put the contents into plastic bags and our pockets and allow Flybe to throw our carry-ons away. We took the second option.

It was our fault, but the consequences were beyond all reason and we will never fly with Flybe again.

I suggest you might want to reassess the wisdom of pushing carry-on limits...
 
Easyjet have two separate limits. They have the regular cabin cabbage size, then they have a "guaranteed to travel with you" size, which is smaller. But if you're over that size, all it means is that if the flight is really busy, they will make you check it into the hold (for free). So it's not the end of the world if that happens.

As you say though, I wouldn't recommend going over the hard limits, unless you're willing to pay the consequences.
 
Had the same problem with the suitcase wheels sticking out (for later flights it was already arranged for luggage) which resulted in a very upset wife and paying for the first leg (80ukp I think). It was fly be I think...

Anyway - good luck... might be better to book with a bigger plane (the budget aeroplane are very small, even limited under seat space).

If the weight isn't a problem, check whether they have the split bag option... two bags totallying the 10kg, and if it folds small enough to go under the seat or you get to the seat area first and put it at the back... shouldn't be a problem.


Mind you on the last flight I took from UK to Amsterdam to Brasil, the flight attendents told me and missus off for having to carryon bags each (small backpack sized) I said sorry - won't do it again... and carried on... First to the seating area, so two bags up and two under the seats... no problem. (I should mention that it was the complete listing pretty much that is in my sig on my back at the time...)
