I use Sandisk cards for my 40D and have never had a problem with them, so would def recommend those.
The usual places I try are Amazon, Play, 7 day shop, Jessops etc it's also worth looking on Dixons / Currys / Comets web site as they sometimes have some great deals on - and Camerapricebuster also has a list

Yup. No point is paying extra for the 60 MB/s cards because the 1D can't actually keep up with the slower cards.
