That's the noise my breaker box made last night... After a long stressful day at work I can't honestly say that I enjoyed coming home to that.
I was intending to be in bed before 9 but, thanks to that thing, I was still awake and tinkering at nearly midnight.

We've managed to narrow it down to being something on the downstairs sockets causing the problem, but after following an electricians advice on how to find hat was the problem, results were inconclusive.
Still at least we got the freezer running overnight, and the baby monitor. I even left the tv off :O

Just waiting on the sparky now to see what's the issue.

could be worse, when i was still living at home the box in the garage blew itself off the wall (starting a nice fireworks display) following a break in the mains cable under the driveway :D

Do you have "home emergency" add on cover on your home insurance, sockets not working are usually covered if you do
Best thing to do would be swap breakers and try the upstairs breaker on the downstairs ring as could well be a knackered breaker if it's buzzing in the consumer unit.

Sadly no, but we've got the sparky that the letting agent uses here at the minute, he's a bit confused.

Well it was working fine until the kettle was plugged in but the sparky says that would've been the straw that broke the camels back.

Bit of a fishy tale this one. Glad you are all sorted  Reading the title I thought at first it was T`s electronic cigarette playing up

Tbh we thought it was the kettle setting the rcd into mental mode, but the guy was adamant it might have pushed the draw up towards the rcd limits but it was the wet extension tripped it.
I've moved a new extension out from under the tank, though I suspect it was some slightly slapdash water changing that spilled onto the extension.
On tipping he old extension up, water actually poured out of it, so that kinda explains that

 that'll do it.

Either that or its your DiY alternative energy system...
