Well when I discovered a large bit of dust on my sensor in some landscape shots I was like

I did a test on a white background to find out how bad the problem was.

I then order one of these sensor cleaning kits design for beginners. I used the blower first, which moved the larger dust but some of the finer dust was still visible. I then cleaned the sensor with the sensor swabs and fluid, I did this twice to get results I was happy with.

Before:

After:

There are 3 very very small bit of dust, but I had to try really hard to show them up in lightroom, hence the graining on the image.

So I am very happy with the results and I hope I don't have to clean the sensor again any time soon, and I defo recommend the above kit for anyone starting out in cleaning their own sensor.

Cheers

Its amazing how easy it is to get dust on the sensor. Im always realy careful when changing lens over and only do it in the car or indoors but still manage to have afew spots. I brought a blower the other week so need to give that ago i think.

Useful post ***, so thanks for the info, may also buy this kit.

It is very easy to do. I was a bit nervous before doing it, I did quite a bit of research into which cleaning kits to buy too. After you've done it once though, you'll understand how easy it is :)

Just a thought guys. I used the wet cleaning method several years ago and found that the fluid evaporated over a few months. I had a word with the distributor, and they suggested keeping it in the fridge to reduce this effect

I would have thought if the bottle is sealed tightly, there would be zero evaporation.

Either way, at about £8 per bottle, it hardly expensive :)

The cleaning chemical is highly volatile and will disperse even in a tightly sealed bottle. I only mention this as it can be that you come to use it only to find the bottle is empty, as happened to me

Sorry you experienced this and glad you have it sorted now. However... what's sensor dust... :);)

Yep, you betcha we do... often too!! Still don't know what sensor dust is though...? ;)

Don't you change your lenses?

Yeah in all sorts of conditions, but Oly's have the best 'dust-busters' in the business, so its never really an issue.

Not been troubled by dust on the last two camera i've had (Oly E-510 and E-3).

:olympus:

Now I'm confused.

I'm guessing there's some sort feature which stops dust from entering the sensor area, either some sort of vacume system or a physical barrier?

ROFL

Wouldn't the cheapest and best solution be something like a physical plate which moves across the entrance area before removing the lens, therefore, zero chance of dust entering the area inside the camera.
