Tonight I sacked Facebook. I went on hoping to spend a few minutes looking for messages from friends and family. The first thing I see is an image of the results of some low life scum's cruelty to a dog with a firework. This brought a surge of anger and emotional upset at the plight of that poor dog. It is now over an hour and my emotions and nervous system have still not settled. I just want to get the scummy vermin and kick the s**t out of him or them. I cannot face seeing any more of it hence Bye Bye Facebook.

I've seen that picture. It's awful. Unfortunately with Facebook you can't necessarily choose what you see. If you're on a news site you have a choice to click on a link or not but with Facebook you are at the mercy of your friends and what they share. I have tried a few times to delete Facebook but one of my main hobbies involves buying through suppliers on Facebook. I've also found it is the main way of planning the social lives of my 2 kids and staying in the loop with school updates etc. I feel like I'm stuck with it so envy you being able to be done with it.

I do find myself deleting people that repeatedly share that sort of thing.

I ended up binning it too, but I've reopened an account under a pseudonym in order to maintain contact with 4 or 5 people that don't do email.

You can filter the content that people share or post on facebook. There is a tab in the top right of their post, just click on it and click on the tab that say's you don't wish to see such posts.

I have been feeling very much the same emotions. I go on FB to catch up with local info, friends and family who live away and for light hearted amusement. Several times I've logged on to be met with an image that haunts me for days. Why in Gods name must people do that, I mean really, do folk genuinely believe that people wish to see such graphic and disturbing images?

I'm seriously thinking of removing myself, it's sad in one sense as it has been because of FB that I have found and made contact with long lost family and friends. However, the cons outweigh the pros in these cases. I have on a few occasions contacted whoever shared the graphic image to complain that it really is disturbing for some people to see these things and asked them not to do so. Some take heed others don't. What is it with this need for people to want to share such things? (n)

Anybody that shares this sort of stuff I just unfollow them , you will usually find it's the same people that do it so once they are unfollowed then it goes away

i like facebook for keeping in touch with friends but sometimes grubby stuff does pop up
but that is no different from watching the news or walking down the street.

Leaving facebook because you didnt like one post is a bit like giving up watching any tv because you dont like whats on channel 38 occasionally. As said you can delete or unfollow a person and/or click the "I dont want to see posts like this" button.
Tailor the tool to suit your own preferences.
Admittedly facebook dont make these options obvious but they are there.
However most of the stuff on there is sentimental motivational poster dull twaddle so I cant say I blame you.

You can just use the FB messenger app to keep in touch with friends, no need to go on the actual site. I don't bother with it much these days, it's mostly full of adverts, cute animal clips, attention seekers and downright idiots.

It sounds like you need to upgrade to better friends. Aside from adverts (it's a free service and I accept I'm the product and the market) all the stuff I see is posted / shared by friends. The ones that post stuff I don't want to see get removed, but fortunately I don't have any friends that post things like that.

No point complaining about facebook, complain about the people you are friends with.

I am sorry but the poster is not my friend and I have never heard of him or her before. this was something put on by Facebook on starting up along with other posts from people I don't have contact with.

This may be/have been because you had your profile/wall/newsfeed (whatever they call it these days) set to allow anyone to post to it rather than just Friends.

This is a far better solution than just binning it all. Facebook is far more convenient than emailing or calling - I didn't get what FB Messenger did until recently.

They are friends with your friends or your friends have liked/commented on it, hence you see it. Facebook doesn't just show you random stuff, even its adverts are targeted specifically to you.

The annoying thing about facebook is that when you report something, they do nothing about it!
There was a suicide video on there the other week that popped on my profile and I thought it was fake... it wasn't!
I reported it to facebook and they replied saying it didn't breach any of their rules... well annoying!!!
To think our kids are growing up with this around them is scary!

Don't get me started on the nonsense that is Facebook.

Sick of the memes, sick of the fake stories which people seem to believe without checking facts and to be blunt, I am sick of the countless pictures of peoples kids.
You have a child, I know what it looks like. There is no need for 27 pictures a day.

My Nan uses it and she drives me mental, literally like or comments on anything I might post.
She is old so I don't have the heart to tell her but it makes me not want to post anything lol.

There should be an IQ test to be able to use social media, some people can't be trusted.

Trouble is the close circle of friends with similar views can lead you to have a very restricted view on the world ;)

The best social networking is down your local pub

I know. "People" with a narrow world view created by the likes of CNN and the Guardian are now burning down flags, cars, causing riots, beating up peaceful pensioners, etc. And this is all because they are completely unable to think for themselves and fall for the false narrative and manipulations by the likes of Soros. It is the manifestation of the political cancer we had for a century now. It will be dealt with. I don't know how but it will be.

The pub is probably not the best place due to potential abuse of alcohol. The less the better. There are better places to socialise, lets say a golf club, galleries, family get-togethers, etc.

Their censorship rules do seem to be all over the place...I've no idea how they work or who makes the decision on what breaks their rules. I've reported several things, including overtly racist comments, in the past and FB took no action.

Polly Toynbee's columns are certainly annoying for her inability to construct an argument and massive ability to completely miss the bleeding obvious, but I'm not sure they're so annoying that they incite me to beat up peaceful pensioners.

And you do get to see lots of pics of barely clad young ladies ,which sometimes make a old man smile ,especially the stockings and sussie ones :banana::banana::exit:

They'd have taken it down if there was a female nipple showing :(
You've got to love American morality.

You are quite right Phil. I have a photographer friend in Berlin who only today posted that his 24 hour ban from FB had been lifted today, his crime was posting a photo of a topless model 7 years ago! They've only just discovered it... Yes, you have have to wonder about the American sense of morality. :sneaky:

Errrm, you do realise you don't have to look at Facebook to get those sort of pictures? :D
I really have to laugh at some of the serious and semi serious replies I often get on here for what is obviously a tonge in cheek spurious post

Facebook is great for catching up with real news not from presstitute media and for trolling the likes of UN, pro-regressives, libtards, etc.

What the everlovin'fcuxk is the presstitute media.
Do your carers know you have access to the internet?

What the everlovin'fcuxk is the presstitute media.
A term coined by Gerald Celente and often used by independent journalists and writers in the alternative media in reference to journalists and talking heads in the mainstream media who give biased and predetermined views in favor of the government and corporations, thus neglecting their fundamental duty of reporting news impartially. It is a portmanteau of press and prostitute.

Shut the front door.
What a load of bowlarks.

No real need for the rolling eyes. Did you not see the smiley I put at the end? It wasn't a serious or semi-serious comment, t'was a JOKE dear boy.
