Yes
just a heads up i bought a camera earlier from this site as always i use a credit card for protection when using for 1st time

everything went through fine to shipping stage where ive just got notification that my card has been randomly picked for security checks so please send payment via wire transfer

obvious scam so avoid the site people :)

The business address 8 Limetree avenue Peterborough doesn't seem to exist, house numbers go from 6 straight to 10, unless its round the back. Certainly a residential house though, compamy registered on 27/09/2012

Now you need to get that card stopped. The first part of the scam is trying to get you to bank transfer money to them. The second part is that they now have all your card details.

Were you attracted to the stupidly low prices by any chance?

You're joking right?

no what can they do ?

i have fraud protection on the card so cant see what they could do other than a crude attempt to get me to bank transfer the money ?

I know where the road is and the area around Lincoln Road and it's definitely not a buisness area nor one that I would be happy with having my card details!...get in touch with your card supplier ASAP and get it closed and another one with different pin etc sent out to you

Well you may have fraud protection, but you also have a duty of care. The fact is they have your billing address and card details and will more than likely attempt to use the card at some stage.

You may not suffer a loss with fraud protection, but somebody will, be it the bank or the merchant where the card is used. Eventually these losses are passed back on to us, the customers.

So do the right thing and report it. Get the card stopped and a new one issued.

Did you give them the expiry date and CVV number as well as the card number? If you did, they have all they need to use your card.

Mine was 'used' in New York recently despite me being very much in the UK at the time. The fraud was dealt with effectively by my card provider but I could have done without the phone calls and form filling to sort it out. I could also have done without being without it until a replacement arrived.

YMMV.

As Eliot states, you have a duty of care and as such If they incur losses because of your card being used fraudulently and they consider you were negligent in not informing them of that risk then you run the risk of being held accountable.

Don't forget what you say here in this forum is in the public domain, however slim the chances are of it reaching them !.

Company has all my credit card details...

But they can't do anything can they?

LOL, some people ask for it.

nice attitude nobody asks to be ripped off i checked the company its registered business etc

might be genuine as its a new card and i made the purchase minutes after my card activation phone call so it may well have been rejected payment i guess ?

For future reference always google the websites u are looking to buy from for reviews, ie: "www.website.com reviews" and if there's little or no info about the site, or they have bad reviews I avoid them completely, regardless of how good their prices appear to be!

Great advice, do your homework. It's worth spending quite a few hours tbh. Also don't just type in `reviews` but maybe `reviews and complaints`

I'd also add though, that it's not a good idea to rely on 1 or 2 independent review sites (eg review centre) as they are spammed by sellers, so you won't get a balanced view.

I think it's more reliable to ask on forums relevant to your purchase, eg TP for photography related gear.

As an online retailer, we don't actively use review sites to request customer reviews as they cost an arm and a leg. We trailed trustpilot for about a year but decided to stop as we didn't feel we were getting our monies worth.

What I'm saying is the only independent review site you will find reviewing our business is trustpilot.
Remember that customers will not generally seek out a review site to leave a good comment, but will be more than happy to actively leave a bad review on every review site if they have a bad experience. Unfortunate this means that you will often find plenty of bad reviews but less good reviews. You only have to look at courier reviews to see what I mean. This is does not necessarily reflect the truth about a business. The bad reviews may be a tiny percentage of the total customer base and let's face facts, no business is perfect and there are some customers that just can't be pleased no matter what you do.

I think the best way to gauge an online business is to look for simple clues such as a valdi UK address, a valid UK telephone number(pick up the phone and speak to somebody), do a Whois on the domain name to see who it's registered to, when it was registered and what the registered address is. Always look for HTTPS on any pages where you are entering sensitive information including your name and address.

Check terms and conditions. Many scammers will not be aware of the distance selling regulations and will often have terms such as no returns, or they will charge a handling fee.
Check for grammatical errors. If a business can't be bothered to write proper English, then I doubt they will be bothered when it comes to customer service. I'm not saying discount a site if you find a single spelling error though :)

Also always use a credit card for purchases over £100 and NEVER pay by bank transfer. A legitimate business would not ask you to pay by bank transfer if your card is declined.

Remember that just because a site ends in .co.uk and advertised Royal Mail delivery does NOT mean they are a UK business.

Elliot, good advice & I agree almost entirely with your post, apart from `reviewcentre` who are actually awash with positive `reviews` of one seller in particular & folk tend to see these when googling, believe they're all genuine & delve no deeper unfortunately.

Folk really need to think seriously before being tempted by .co.uk & do their homework!
