Buying off gumtree

SWMBO wants a particular mirror. The high street shop no longer produces it - stopped about a year ago. I've spotted it on Gumtree about 100 miles away for half the retail value. Having never used gumtree before, are there any precautions to take? Or do I just get in touch, drive up, pick up mirror and pay the dough?

Always cash on collection.

Perhaps arrange to meet in public place if larger amounts of cash are involved. Stops you getting robbed in a randoms house.

a mirror doesn't sound like the item you would get scammed for. Cash on collection and that is it.

With technology and cars you'd have to be more careful doing all the checks particularly as the value goes up

ive not bought anything but have sold some stuff through gumtree, most have been fine, knock on door cash hand stuff over and gone in under 60 seconds.
but had some shifty guys come once for an old cinema amp and offer £10 less than agreed, i just grumbled anc accepted and off they went.
