Buying my first DSLR

Hi all. Im looking at getting my first DSLR camera soon. The only camera i own atm is on my phone so looking to buy a decent camera and get in to a bit of photography. I dont really want to spend more than £300 on a kit (camera, lenses, battery, etc...). I dont mind Manufacture Refurbished or New (doubt i will get one new for less than £300 though). Ive been looking at the Canon Rebel T3/1100D and read a few reviews as seems about right for me but just want another opinion or even a different/better camera.

Myself and clients have used Digigood loads of times with xlnt service and the camera is a great starting point.
 
Get down to your local camera shop and try at least three brands. Also check out the classifieds here.

That looks like a pretty good price for a starter body and lens, it'll certainly be a good one to learn with.
 
Thanks for replys guys! Ive been have a look around and found that i can get the 550D/T2i for an extra £100 but is it really worth it over the 1100D? Im not a professional photographer, nor will i ever be. I just want a fairly decent camera so i can get good shots of when im holiday, car, walking about in forest. Also decent video recording will be awesome aswell so i was looking at buying a HD camcorder but would prefer it all in one package. I know the 550D is 1080p and the 1100D is 720p but is there a massive difference thats worth the extra £100 between the both cameras? I have the funds for a 500D refurbished dont get me wrong, especially after xmas but as it wont be used massively alot, will it be worth it in the long run? Oh and the 550D would come with a 1 year warrenty, where as the 1100D would come with a 3month warrenty. Thanks.

The reason why I suggested that you get down to your local camera shop is that there is nothing to touch handling a camera yourself. If for instance you won't be chasing junior around the garden or birds in flight then you may not need the fast response from a DSLR at all and a small system camera such as the Sony NEX or Panasonic G series might suit you. DSLRs, particularly as you go up the grades, can be bulky and heavier than you're used to with a compact or phone.
Entry level cameras tend to be smaller and lighter, but can come across feeling rather insubstantial and plasticky. Going up a grade or two such cameras will be far better constructed, but they'll be heavier too. Handling between different manufacturers can be like chalk and cheese, which is why there is often such fierce brand loyalty; what is good for one person just feels 'wrong' to another.
You can only judge that by seeing them and handling them yourself.

BTW, sorry about the confusion regarding the classified section - I didn't know that there were post-count restrictions when looking to buy.

Well my mates has a Canon 350D and hes had that a good few years now and its a very nice camera indeed. My dad has a Panasonic G10 camera but in not to fond of that as i prefer interchangable lens. Im not bothered about weight or the size, aslong as it takes decent photos and good video i will be happy. Dont want to buy a cheap one as i will only end up selling it in a few months to buy a better one so i might aswell go all out and but a fairly decent one to start with so thats why ive been looking at the 550D. I would go a camera shop but the closest one to me is like 25miles away and i work alot so dont have much time to go out and find a camera shop. But as i said, ive had a go with my mates 350D and i love it.

EDIT: Just bought the 550D. Might aswell treat myself as my gf has just bought a new car lol.

Got my 550D now and ive very very pleased with it. Refurbished camera but looks brand new, not a single mark or scratch on it. Wouldnt mind to find out the Shutter Count though as being a refurbished camera but im wondering if they wipe it all, and start it off as 0 again.
