Buying lenses is a dangerous game...

Well, I decided to upgrade my 75-300 III USM and got a 70-200 f4L and 1.4 TC. Oh deary me. I now know why everyone goes crazy for L lenses, they are just such good quality. The images are crisp, the focusing is stupidly quick and it is built like a tank. The only problem is that my camera is now so much heavier!

Oh, and I now want more L lenses. Time to save for that 24-70 f2.8L...

The IQ is excellent.
As for weight - that is a plus to some folk and a curse to others.
I prefer kit that is on the heavy side. I find it easier to hold steady.

nice crisp photo Jim...and nice bokeh too. I also have the same70-200 as you and really love it. Also trying to save for the 24-70..good luck!

Jim, did you upload that as an 800 x 533 image to Flickr? If not, how on earth did you get Flickr to resize it to 800px on a side? And, if it is resized by Flickr, how did you get Flickr to retain the Meta data?

I only ever tried an L lens once, I'm hoping to have my first piece of L glass (24-105L) next week and I can't wait.

You will soon want apertures that don't exist. Good choice starting with the F4, at least you've got 200mm 2.8, 2.0 and 1.8 left to get ;)

The trick is to never try an L lens... I bought my first (a 17-40 f4L) in January, and at the end of March I went a little crazy and bought a 24-70 f2.8L and the rather tasty 70-200 f2.8L IS II.

I'm now very, very skint

Ahh yes the curse of the L I got rid of my 70-200 F4 to get a 100-400 L now saving to get either the 24-70 or 24-105. dam you Canon. Oh and I miss the 70-200 so will add another one of them to the very very distant wish list!!

Sorry to disappoint but I have now learned to upload an 800px image when using flickr. It's the only way to maintain a decent size and the exit data!

Thanks all for your comments. L lenses are indeed dangerous and expensive. And to think of what I could get with my credit cards...

I too bought my first L glass this year, and am saving hard to replace my other lenses now. The difference is amazing.
