Happened to be in Tottenham Court Road today and was reminded how many retailers don't price their goods on display. I'd probably find it a bit intimidating wandering in to each shop and having to negotiate prices. I suppose it might be OK if well armed with alternative price sources and the resolve to not go over a certain price. Anybody doing any of their camera shopping down there and have any tips?

By the way, for those who don't know, Tottenham Court Road is in Central London and has quite a concentration of consumer goods retailers selling cameras and accessories aswell as a few camera specialists.

to be honest they usally match any magazine or even the uk internet sellers

i usally pop in a haggle for a steal but it never happens on the nikon stuff only on the third parties like tamaron, sigma

i really want a tokina 116 ie 11-16mm dx lens

but i ant been up there for ages so i will have to wait till next time,

alot is grey imports on a few of the shop so be very carefull

there is only a couple i would use they are at the other end near and past gouge st station.

I've bought a few times from Sunrise Digital Camera Center - the manager always gives me a good deal with a little gentle haggling!

I thought shops were legally obliged to show prices?

I bought my first 2 cameras from Sunrise too, now I shop online.

The one's I've been in often do show prices but they are usually SRP - i.e. about 30% above what you'd actually expect to pay - some haggling gets you close to camera-buster's best, but not normally quite that low as the best prices are usually internet-only companies.

yep - you can normally talk him down to somewhere around CPB's best - he normally complains very loudly about the fact, but he never complains to long when you get your credit card out.
