This subject has just cropped up on another thread so what do you guys buy in bulk to save money.

My sport supplements, (protein, and carb's etc) pasta, and museli.

Bout it,

Got my 10th free visit coming up.

Note, not free 10th visit!

(not fact)

On a more serious note, teabags. In fact Yorkshire Tea have a competition running where you can win a "year's supply of teabags". At my current rate of 5-6 a day their offered amount probably wouldn't do me a couple of months. I have a "tea drawer" in my desk at work.

A colleague has a "Double Decker Drawer". He likes Double Deckers and they're much cheaper at the cash and carry. Buy stuff at a cash and carry!

Oh, and film! Fridges full of film.

russdaz, www.myprotein.co.uk (referral code MP96840 ;)) have great deals on supplements. Their True Protein is very very yummy, all the flavours taste like dessert. The only one I can't stand is Banana because it reminds me of amoxicillin and therefore tonsillitis.

Peas. Got a bag full of them in the freezer. There must be easily a hundred, if not more.

Cat food. Three cats that only like one of the most expensive foods, when its on offer we buy a fair bit and the cashiers always comment.

Anything thats not gonna go out of date before I use it! Cleaning products, toilet roll, meat for the freezer, rice, huge boxes of diet Pepsi etc. There is a huge Costco up the road from where I live which is quite handy. I won't buy anything if I don't think I'll use it though as it's false economy.

Thanks, but i already use them, i get most of my stuff from them, as there i can buy everything in bulk and very the strength on everything based on the days training/racing that is planned, although i tend to get the unflavoured proteins as something else that i mix in has a very nice but strong taste that wouldnt mix with other flavours.

Plenty bulk buying opportunities here:D

I use myprotein True Protein too. Cheaper to buy in bulk and spend over £100 at a time it's postage free. Saves me loads. Wife complains about the amount of kitchen space I take up though.
I also use monstersupplements for a branded recovery drink which are the cheapest supplier I've found and again is cheaper the more you buy.

Petrol...I have about 1200 litres of BFG fuel coupons saved - we're told not to hoard them, but this only represents about 2 months driving...

Flour, pulses, oats etc - I have an account with Suma wholesale.

Eggs - local farm sells at £3.50/tray (30eggs), help yourself and leave the cash on the side.

tinned tomatoes - costco.

I used to buy tea in bulk from India and I really should get that going again.

I go to costco; can pretty much buy everything in bulk there

I'm trying to avoid buying in bulk - just found a packet of Museli in the cupboard with a Best Before date of November.....1997

Pasta. I buy (and eat) loads of pasta so without fail always have at least 1kg bag of penne in the house. Other than that, I buy loads of porridge and did, in the past, buy protein en masse, although I used CNP Professional stuff. Russ, how does that compare to MyProtein?

Off topic, but, i use sci mentor for my protein. Get it cheaper through uni. Never had any problems with them before.

I used CNP Professional stuff. Russ, how does that compare to MyProtein?

CNP bulk can be quite cheap, and tastes quite nice. Personally i found it gives me bad wind.

I do alot of endurance based training, as i like tri's, and rowing i need alot of power, and due to the job i do i need alto of upper body strength too so i prefer to mix my drinks depenant of the day and expected calloree burn, mixing different carb's and proteins which the CNP doesnt really let me do. Instead there rather sell you drinks for pre, during, and post training.

Myprotein you can buy it all seperately if you want or they do these formula's

http://www.myprotein.co.uk/mp-max/protein-supplements/

The true protein is very nice and unlike most other proteins its never given me wind (seems the same as Reflex Instant whey cheapest i know is £62 for a 10lb pag) True Protein is £52.24 for a 10lb serving. CNP (Pro-mass cant find there whey protein) is slightly cheaper then that at £45 for 4.5kg 9.9lbs.

But you can get cheper proteins from myprotein like £31.75 for a 10lb
http://www.myprotein.co.uk/bulk-supplies/unflavoured-protein/impact-whey-protein-(unflavoured)/

Although the other thing to remember that CNP stuff isnt pure protein it has maltadextrin in it so in effect you getting more protein with the myprotein's options above. If then want maltadextrin then it is £11.90 for a 5kg bag. Plus with that you can add or subtract the amount you want of it in it.

http://www.myprotein.co.uk/bulk-powders/carbohydrates/maltodextrin/

But i get Dextrose, Fructose, Palintose, Creatine, True Whey, Taurine, L-Glutamine, Electrolyte powder, HMB, Instant Milk Protein, MP Flavouring (Strawberry), and MP Flavouring (Berry Blast). Outta that lot i can taylor my own Morning, pre-training, training/competing, post workout/competition and prebedtime as i need something before bed. I usually burn 4-6,000 cal perday, or upto 7,000 in just one competition. About £120 for around 3-3.5months of training i train 7 days a week.

All my proteins stuff comes from the same people that supplies the rest, just comes in pretty much unbranded bag's when buying in volume, so you will need something to contain the products in..

Fortunately my local gym stocks the 2.5kg Pro-Mass at £25, therefore making it a far cheaper alternative. But thanks for a very informative post regarding the options for mixing/matching supplements.

That works out to £50 for 10lb serving, myprotein equvilent for same protein plus carb and postage is most likely around £45 so not much of a saving for the inconvince of waiting in, or going to pick the order up. Although you would get more servings from the myprotein, and tbh i totally forgot they did this one a 2.75kg weightgainer (protein and carb's in one same as CNP promass) at £20.95 for one or £19.90 for 2. (bigger discounts for more)
http://www.myprotein.co.uk/mp-max/weight-gain/weight-gainer-(6lb)/

(warning i have never used that one, one reason why i forgot they did it)

Dont know any-where that sells all the other stuff, let alone match the price.

Forget most of the fancy branded creatines or recovery drinks, its cheaper and easy to make your own.

Careful with buying creatine, do your own research. The jury is still out as to exactly what you should buy. There's no doubt that it's useful (depending on what you're training for) just over how to get it into your system.

Personally, I found that 5g creatine monohydrate mixed with grape juice twice a day worked for me. I don't train in a way that it would be especially useful now though, so I don't take it.

yeah seen loads of reports and studies, tried a few methods. Best for me seams 5gm mono pretraining with dex and malt. Everyone is different though.

Dog food, normally about £200 worth a month for my newfies.

Oh, I thought of another. Golf tees. I bought a bag of 1000 about five years ago and haven't had to reinvest since. Fortunately.

We buy whole lambs or pigs off the butcher, have them chopped up the way we want and store them in a large chest freezer. We worked out that this saves about £40 on super market prices.

we are fortunate enough to have a cash+carry account

went today and some of the things we bought were

30x.5kg bags of sugar
50x kitchen rolls
50x bog rolls
30x heinz spagehtti
20kg bag of fusili pasta
20x cans of redbull £14 for 20 cans, rrp is way over £1 a can (bought 5 crates :) )

Black straws, for a few of us ;)

We have tried that before but found we were eating cuts of meat and parts from the animal we would not normally buy so did not see the point.

That is something I like about it, it gives you variety and lets you do things you wouldnt normally do.

We make stews, curries etc, boil the bones for stock, give the left over gristle and marrow to our ferrets etc. In fact using the left overs to feed the pets also saves us a lot of money on animal feed. We also buy frozen chicks and rat pups in bulk for the ferrets, again saving a small fortune.

We tend to get the normal household items, you know the ones that bulk your bill on the weekly shop ie loo roll, fabric softener, washing powder, kitchen towel, toothpaste, etc, we make big savings on those
