Hi all, just wondered if anyone has bought from Viltrox (China) directly before? It says in the checkout that I will be liable for any taxes that are incurred, how can I be sure if I will get any and what amount it is likely to be, if any?

Duty, probably 3.7% on camera lenses [HS code 90021100]

VAT 20% on top of that

+ any admin charges applied by the carrier

Ah ok thank you, probably works out cheaper to get it from a UK stockist then

I have recently bought a couple of items from the Far East. A lens from China, costing £175ish, came to me with no additional tax or duty. a camera and lens from Japan costing about the same cost me a total of £41 including a £9.10 admin charge by Fedex. That may help your decision.

Thank you, always seems a bit hit and miss with these things :)

I've recently bought some Chinese lenses but all from the UK. Two of the ones I bought were from Amazon, who also do Viltrox.

I've had to fight FedEx on several of those and they eventually back down, charging the end customer an admin fee is an awful practice, and you have no contract with them.

I have bought my Viltrox lenses from:

https://www.avmphoto.com/

What you might, or might not, save in price is more than made up for in next day delivery, a UK importer should things go wrong and a thoroughly decent owner to do business with.

I have been caught in the import tax/courier charges/slow boat from China debacle ........once.

Lesson well and truly learned and whilst it has clearly worked for others, I wouldn't bother.
