I bought a piece of photographic equipment from an Ebay seller on Sunday. Nothing special, nor expensive, but it represented exceptional value, and with a weight of 1.5KG, and a promise of delivery within 4 working days, I was intrigued. The seller had a 100% feedback over 900+ sales, so it seemed win/win.

I paid the price via Paypal, and sat back, and hoped.

Monday morning, an email from the seller saying that he had sent the package and giving me a UPS tracking number. I checked and saw that the track number was also on my purchases page on eBay. I clicked the link, and saw that the package had been picked up in Krosniewice,Poland. By 2152 it was in the German hub, and by 0900 today, it was in Dorking, England. I have just checked the tracking info, and it is in Manchester, and ready for delivery before 1700 tomorrow, guaranteed!

This is nothing short of miraculous by RM standards, and all for £9. UPS standard, across a continent in 3 days. Bravo!

I bought something from Dublin the other week. Put in the post on Tuesday afternoon in Dublin, by Friday afternoon Australian time it was in Melbourne. Having travelled through London, Paris, Guangzhou and Singapore - in less than three days. Small world and all that. I feel like I should go plant some tress now.

With your luck, please plant one for me too please.

I used to import a lot of car parts from the US, usually at my door 2 days later. I even got some next day once. All with Fedex. UPS Are also good, similar service from stuff I get sent from Europe, I think they actually originate in the Netherlands, can't remember off the top of my head.

From Krosniewice to Stuttgart
From Stuttgart on to Dorking
From Dorking it's back to Stuttgart
From Stuttgart to Krosniewice
You spend half your life in transit
But that's just the way God plans it

With apologies to 10cc :)

As we speak a big online retailer has refunded me postage because they failed to deliver within the UK in 3 days  The Great British postal system :) I also managed to "miss" postie for another delviery when I was eating lunch right by the door.... weird.

On the other hand, I received a parcel today from Germany, Deutches Post, not a courier, which was posted 8 days ago. It was only a small packet, one that would go through a letter box. I'd love to know how long it spen in Germany, before being haded to Royal mail?? Probably only a few hours.

When I was doing fieldwork on St Kilda someone posted a parcel to me from the Netherlands. It was posted late on Thursday afternoon in Groningen and made it to St Kilda the next morning, via Amsterdam, Glasgow, Benbecula, the QinetiQ sorting office and then onto the QinetiQ helicopter, all within 18 hours!

back to the OP ,its probably worth your while next time just jumping on a ryanair flight and going to poland in person ,i was out there last year and the savings in camera shops over u.k prices ESPECIALLY on used gear was amazing . and at the end of the day a canon or nikon or sigma lens etc is the same there as here .

the other day the wife was waiting for a parcel the postman turned up posted a parcel through the door (large letter size) the wife retrieved it and it was for next door ,a couple of minutes later the postman was back at our door with the wifes parcel.and she duly gave him back the other one .bit like a game of musical paths :exit:

Had a card through the door from Parcelforce that they could not leave 'large item' so had left it at the Post Office 3 miles away.
I was scratching my head what it could be and could not go for a couple of days.
When I made special trip there I discovered it was actually for a farm with similar name 5 miles away.
The driver comes here maybe once a month so no idea how he went through these additional steps without realising.
Sometimes you wonder if they just want to get round quick and go home that day.
