one thing to watch out for is a sneaky invoice from customs... for import duty friend of mine just got one when he imported Huey Pro and lens.. would have been cheaper getting them in this country.

iv used Digital Rev a couple of times now, they are very good.. the first time was for a 40D with grip.. they said if there were any TAX then they would pay me back.. they did too!! straight away!! the last time was for an ST-E2 and it was already in the country.. very good..

I bought a 40D and grip from DigitalRev, refunded my customs charge straight away. Although, remember that only selected items from DigitalRev qualifly for the customs charge rebate, and only on their eBay listings.

Also try onestopdigital.com - they give FREE shipping on all items, and will refund any customs charges when it enters the UK.

Nooooooooooo! That sucks! OSD was so good! :(

7dayshop is also good, not a HK import though.

Another vote for Digital Rev. I used there auctions that were No VAT, scanned and emailed the duty invoice and was in my account within 24 hours.

They have a UK phone no. for warranty issues as well.

I thought it was www.onestop-digital.com (who are still trading) not www.onestopdigital.com (who aren't) ??

:agree: I've always used www.onestop-digital.com

They're very good :)

One other thing to bear in mind is that Sigma don't offer an international warranty unless customs & import taxes have been paid, and as OSD send all their items as "repaired" you won't pay any taxes.. so if it's faulty, it will have to go back to Hong Kong for repair under HK warranty :)

We recently bought two 40D's and a grip, and bought them from a UK supplier. OK, it cost a bit more but 1/ had them in our hands on the day and 2/ if they ever go wrong, they only need to go a few miles up the road, where we can deal with a real person face-to-face.

I've used Kea Photo twice, an HK eBay seller, who are extremely good! :)

As mentioned, Sigma UK won't honour the warranty unless import duty and VAT has been paid. You'd have to send it back to HK.

It's whether you are prepared to sacrifice the UK warranty for the saving. For £100, I wouldn't... And have you tried Kerso for a quote yet?

My 100-300mm f/4 came from HK, saved myself £250, so I am prepared to take the hit if it ever needed any repairs.

I saved around £300 on my 300mm F4 from HK

FedEx for over £250 = around 2 days to arrive! :D how good is that!? I'd save £100 on Sigma 105m Macro but i gotta to wait to be rich again! sighs.

Bought my Bigma from them, very quick delivery and refind of import duty/vat. Have a good look at their items for sale to see if they do one 'vat paid' often they will be selling the same item with different deals.

Interestingly, I got a quote from Kerso for the Sigma 150mm Macro that matches Onestop-digital's price ;)

Well you would, because they're both playing the same game. Add 17.5% VAT and 6.9% import duty and you'll see that they both come out slightly more expensive than the best prices which are available from "mainstream" UK retailers.

Stewart have you bought from Kerso? his lenses are not subject to import duty since he imports them and you buy from a UK address with an accepted uk warranty and receipt.

No. Two reasons:

(1) My business is registered for VAT, and once I've claimed back the VAT on purchases I find that the most competitive UK suppliers are usually a bit cheaper.

(2) Even on occasions when Kerso is cheaper, I cannot see how he manages to sell things witout VAT. His turnover must be way over the VAT threshold. Given that all my VAT returns are reclaims (i.e. I'm spending more on new lenses than I am receiving in hire income) and will continue to be for some time, I expect to attract the attention of HMRC and it is essential that everything about my business is squeaky clean.

[Having said that, I bought my 10-22 and 50/1.4 from Kerso, long before I started LensesForHire. Different rules for personal purchases and business purchases!]

Ian, if you're reading this: I'm not implying that what you're doing is illegal, merely that I don't understand how it can be legal. (I'm not a VAT expert.) Please feel free to explain it to me if you like.

I just ordered a Nikon 70-300 VR from one stop and it arrived today from Hong kong...
