About bloody time... I got an ebay voucher. Trouble is, it's for the works ebay account. There won't be a problem using it myself, but what I am trying to find out, is the voucher taken at the purchase or payment stage? ie: can I buy using the works id, then pay with my paypal a/c, and it'll still discount?

And secondly... 123fstop. Am I ok to buy from them? I see a few on here have. Are lenses UK/US? Does it matter?

Could get in some last minute xmas shopping... FOR ME!

It's "normally" taken at payment stage via PayPal as most of them require you pay via PayPal.

Thanks dfrear, I have found the info i needed re paypal and the vouchers. Cant use my personal a/c to pay :(

Lens warranty won't be a problem wherever it's from.

So... buying from HK wouldn't be a problem? Hmmm! Is this likely to be incredibly dodgy spending £000's with an ebay seller in HK?

I'm just waiting on an email confirming that I can have a 50D delivered by Christmas then I'll click BUY

Ps. Don't tell Mrs G :bat:

What seller you using MrGrubby?

Gotta say I am slightly scared using a HK seller, even for a lens. But it could be a heck of a saving with the discount voucher too!

Probably be buying from Kerso if he can supply it in time, otherwise Digital rev / HKsupplies as they've been 100% so far :D

123fstop's stuff is US gray, so the same caveats apply as with a purchase from, say, Kerso...

I've got one of those vouchers too! What to spend it on! Hmmm...

Things to remember.

Duty and VAT is applied to all purchases from outside the EU. The limit was £ 18 or £ 36 for a gift but this was raised from 01.12.08 to £ 105.00

When my 50D came from Digital Rev there was no Duty/VAT to pay on collection, but an invoice landed on the mat a month later. Some traders promise to refund duty / VAT

Sigma will only honour the warranty in the UK if you can provide evidence that the correct level of duty and VAT has been paid. Some importers put a false declaration to reduce the tax hit, but I'm not sure what Sigmas stance is on this.

I'm starting to think this voucher is worthless.

Its still a 'free' £ 100, but depending on what you want to use it on may have drawbacks.

Personally I'd go with Kerso as IIRC he can supply a UK receipt - it works with claiming Canon cashback anyway.

DON'T assume that suppliers from HK will be cheap though. I was looking at the Digital Rev web site yesterday, and their prices worked out to be about 10-15% more expensive than Jacobs (who seem to be the most generally competitive mainstream UK supplier at the moment).

The exchange rate coupled with high international postage costs have really brought the import vs home market values much closer together, and unless there is a huge saving, the peace of mind with dealing with UK vs HK must be worth something (at least the cost of sending it back!)

Digital Rev were doing a 50D for £744 inc postage & tax guarantee so with the £100 ebay voucher that's £644.

But I've got one in the post from Kerso :woot:

I've used 123fstop with no problems.

I've used Onestop Digital for a 70-200 f/2.8. It was faulty and had to arrange postage back. I bought it in the summer for £630 and now only a few months on the price has risen to £787, all thanks to the falling pound.

If you could get a good price from Kerso or 123fstop it would be ideal

mine expires tomorrow. Dont think i'll be using it... not really much saving, and if i got hit for VAT and/or anything else then it'd work out more expensive than buying in the uk.

I'm after a lens... funnily enough the one i was looking at has since sold. possibly someone on here as the lens in question has been mentioned a few times today. I spent too long faffing...

It's either 2 hand uk with tp member history, or brand new HK possibly getting hit for extra taxes at a later date.
