Buying first flashgun

I been thinking of a flashgun to control my lighting but I am right now are under a budget so I can't spend much saving aside for a niffty
So is there a suggestion for a cheap flashgun?
 
What kind of system do you use, nikon, canon etc.

What do you want the flash to do? Off camera, TTL, just manual etc?
 
I dont know what camera system you have but a recent article on cheap flashguns recomended the Sunpack PZ42X at around £100, Other than that i would save up for a decent Canon/Nikon flashgun but it if your not gonna use one much dont waste your money on equipment your not gonna use.
 
I been trying to get a grave yard shot at night but my inbuild flash just reflect off the tombstone like a mirror reflect. I've heard that the flashgun let you adjust the light and maybe the angle aswell. My system is a canon 550d
 
If you don't mind an alternative suggestion to your graveyard shoot, maybe a tripod is a better and cheaper alternative?

Mount your camera on a tripod and use shutter release cable, 2 second self timer, mirror lock up and bulb exposure mode and you won't need any lights. It will probably take you a few goes to get the exposure right but you should get there. Don't be afraid of 2 minute exposures or longer in bulb mode if necessary.
 
Or if you want somewhere reputable to keep an eye on for a used speedlite then have a look at www.mpbphotographic.co.uk I've got 2 580 EX II's from them and both are still going strong.

I will have a try on this and see if this get the effect I like to see thank you for your suggestion :D
