Hey There!
Looking to buy a digital camera for the following:
* Scenery in Cumbrian Lake District Mountains (also sun sets)
* All out door use
* Must be easy to carry, and able to put in bag or pocket
* Price range of no more than around £200ish
* Also working in low light

Thanks, hope that helps all you camera experts!
I'm no good in the technical side just know what I want.

Thanks a Lot!

I started on panasonic Lumix range , exceptional kit for the cost

I don't know what I'm looking at. New to it all mate.
Please could I have a link and some advantages to it.

Thanks so much for yourr answer

I would suggest that you pop in to a local specialist camera shop, explain to them what you are after and your budget and I am sure they will help you find the right camera for your particular needs. Alternatively, I could truly reccomend that you give the guys at Digital Depot in Stevenage a call - some very knowledgeable (and very friendly) guys there who I'm sure would be more than happy to advise/get your custom. check out www.digitaldepotuk.com
Good luck.

Are you looking for a SLR or a compact?

Either if theres a compact that can do the job to good quality I'd be happy for either as long as it isnt too large.

Scenery and low light require tripod if done seriously. It WILL be LARGE, unless it is a **** handheld point and shoot that takes throw-away pictures. Now make up your mind what you really NEED.

£200 is not enough at all, aim for a second hand 300D with 18-55 kit lens

I'd get Nikon D40 kit any day over 300d. They were horrible outdated cameras with one of the worst lenses ever made by a man.

Please link me to an eBay used camera you would recommend and ill read reviews on it from there. Sorry to be so useless I simply dont know much about cameras. and Im doing as much research as as I can when I get time. Cheers again

It depends on how far you intend to take it really - if you must have a compact, then as someone else said, look into the Panasonic Lumix range

The soon to be discontinued LX3 might be good value

Should be able to pick one up 2nd hand for £200

For Landscapes, a lot of people will use a DSLR rather than a compact. A DSLR has a physically larger image sensor and so can capture more detail. Forget about the 'megapixel rating'- a 6 Megapixel DSLR will give you better results (in most cases) than a 10 Megapixel compact, due to it's larger sensor. A DSLR will always be better than any compact in low light - this is the real advantage of the larger sensor. You will not be able to fit a DSLR in your pocket.

You'd be able to buy a 2nd Hand DSLR camera with a lens for around £300 (similar price to the LX3)

The final option that would be perfect (low light, Small, Big sensor, Superb Quality, fits in pocket) is the Panasonic GF1
http://www.panasonic.co.uk/html/en_...ro+System/DMC-GF1/Overview/2821831/index.html

It's a brand new type of compact/DSLR hybrid that uses a big DSLR sensor. Best of both worlds - a lot of people are buying this to replace their DSLR's when travelling light.

But unfortunatley it curently costs £600

:)

I'm not giong to go searching ebay for you, but I can make a recommendation.

The Lumix LX3 is an exceptional camera for a compact. It has a good quality lens and a reasonable sized sensor. It is easy to use however you can learn about photography because it has all the manual options you would need. It is small enough to slip in a bag and not too heavy. Used would be about £200-250

If you decide to sacrifice the small/light requirement then a used DSLR is the next option. Either a Canon 350D or a Canon 20D would be my personal recommendation. They will come in at a similar price although I would choose the 20D over the 350D (But it is heavier). You can buy the body for under £200 for both. Pick up the Canon 18-55 IS kit lens to go with it and you have a decent DSLR kit for approx £250

Buying Compact Digital Camera now: For Scenery Mountains Photographs?
Any recommendations, buying a used camera, around £250

I have been recommended panasonic or canon.

I have a Nikon D40x with kit lens that cost me £210 delivered.

Love it and wouldn't hesitate in going for something similar again :)
