Was planning to ask a friend of mine who is going on a US business trip to buy me an iphone and watch from the US. Comparing the prices (including US sales taxes), there is hardly a difference of £50 in general. Was wondering if it is even worth anymore! Any thoughts?

Have you factored in UK Import Duty?

Have you considered not getting a iPhone and buy a similar spec alternative and save yourself £300-£400 ;)

I personally would just to save 50 quid.

Stop being such a tight wad.

Which alternative runs iOS?
More seriously, Apple's prices in UK have moved much closer to US prices over all their lines. I think their warranties are much more generous here, due to UK and EU laws no doubt.

Seriously...UK import duty will more than swallow that £50.
And have you checked that a warranty on the US sources set up will be honoured in the UK?

I suppose if he is going to declare it on the way back, not sure of the limits but I would imagine an iphone and watch would be more than the allowances

You can bring in other goods worth up to £390 (or up to £270 if you arrive by private plane or boat).

over that you should declare and pay the VAT

A mate picked up a UK iPhone 6s 64gb in duty free at Heathrow yesterday at £60 off the apple store price.
Don't know where your pal flies out from.

I bought a 6s 128gb refurb 'as new' - £180 off the Apple Store price. :)

Given it arrived, mark free with all accessories in retail packaging, who's to say Apple aren't doing the same? [emoji12]
Exactly ;)

I did once take back a faulty handset, which was itself a replacement for a first faulty one (gotta love those home buttons).
The 'genius' returned from his grotto with his best serious/constipated face to inform me that it had had an unauthorised repair and so the warranty was void.
I informed him that Apple had given me the phone as a certified reconditioned phone and that I was unimpressed to have been importuned by their dishonesty. When I requested his technical report in writing 'for legal purposes', he disappeared back into his grotto and - lo! - the problem resolved itself and I was given a shiny 'new' retail boxed phone.

pmsl...shortly after he replaced his not so shiny new underpants I'd think!

Envirophone. They had a special offer, presumably to shift 6s' now that the SE was out and 7 on it's way.

Isn't there now talk of 7 being delayed until 2017?

Possibly, but I couldn't care.
This 6s was replacing a 4, so I'll probably have this for 5 years, by which time they'll be on IPhone 26s and it'll be the size of a bungalow but not make any calls.

I would look into the iPhone not all are compatible to the UK networks even if you get a sim free model

Hmmm didn't think about that. Good job you posted your reply mate. Wondering how do I ensure the iPhone my mate buys is compatible in the UK

Buy one in the UK...that'll cover it

Now, if only we were members of an organisation working to harmonise technical standards across borders...

Oops, sorry. Wrong thread. ;)

The only thing I can say about compatibility is to look it up there are several articles about this. Just look for USA iPhone compatibility for the uk.

No. It would appear that the 7 is going to be very aesthetically like the 6/6S. The 2017 phone will be the 8 with a totally new design.

Well, what can i say....it's just been on BBC radio news that it may be that the 7 is delayed following Apple's poorest quarterly figures in 13 years, leading them to forego the planned 7 in favour of a radically changed 7 next year (what would have been the 8).
All supposition at this point I suppose, since those figures aren't confirmed.

Hasn't been the case for years, iirc the iPhone 5 was the last one where different regions had limited LTE bands included.

Any new iPhone can now be used on any network here.
