bonjour, I am considering jumping in to the DSLR world but have no experience or knowledge of the camera world.
A few people have suggested this forum as good starting point for advice and the like.
Been looking on eBay and ffords, but not knowing whats hot and whats not is making very difficult.
What lens/ lenses would i want to get to begin with?
whats a good body to start with?

budget is small (£200) so obviously looking at 2nd or 3rd hand!

For that money you might be able to find a Canon 350D or even a 400D on Ebay. Have alook at them. I have a 400D and love it to bits! The 350D is two models old now but is still a good camera.

Just had a quick look on completed Ebay auctions for bodies, none had gone for less that £180 recently, so won't leave much for a lens.

If you can stretch to about £230 you will be able to get a new Nikon D40 or Sony a200 both will come with the kit lens, 18-70 on the Sony and 18-55 on the Nikon.

Both are good beginners DLSR's.

Your budget sounds the same as mine, I just bought a lightly used 400D body for £200 with the intention of buying a couple of basic lenses (18-55 , 70-300) over the next couple of months.

Admittedly it is killing me knowing the 400D is sat there with no lenses but in the long term I felt happier going for the Canon.

I just ordered my first DSLR today I'll pass on the advice I got :)

Get down to a camera shop if you can and have a wee play with the various different ones. I found it all very well reading reviews and such but once I had decided on which ones I was interested in (at the time it was Sony A200, Nikon D40 and Canon 350 or 400D) actually handling the cameras and finding which one 'felt right' in the way of grip, button locations, screen and so forth was the final deciding factor for me.

Good luck with your camera search

Your £200 wont go far, if you want new as said Sony A200 or Nikon 40D around the £230 mark both come with kit lens. The Sony as 10Mpix, in body stabilizer, dust reduction and a slightly bigger LCD. You'd get more SHand but no warranty so if it goes it's back to square one.

Good luck.
