I am interested in buying a used Leica M6. Where is best to buy these, and what should i be paying for one?

I will also need a lens, and would ideally like a 35mm (i'd really like the 1.4, but that's unrealistic). How much would i be looking at for one?

Thanks

I may be selling mine up soon because of lack of use. Best dealers are those mentioned by nick. Always worth ringing real camera in Manchester, nice guys with a useless website!

I can recommend the Real Camera Company as well; I've bought a few things from them though sadly not a Leica. I have always found them to be very helpful and real enthusiasts who know their stuff.

They certainly know about Leicas at Real Cameras but also have a look at Peter Loy, they have a pretty big range.

+1 for Peter Loy, helpful chap, updates his inventory frequently and much of the kit is reasonably priced for a dealer.

I played the Ebay gamble and budget for a CLA. paid off for me buying an M3 :)

Don't rule out the Voigtlander lenses if you want something modern sharp and contrasty, they are very well made for the money (not Leica build quality but IMHO knock most canon/nikon stuff into a cocked hat) Zeiss stuff can be surprisingly affordable too if you look at it next to Leica :). If you want something more retro in its look then get a M>LTM adapter and look at some of the vintage thread mount stuff out there, even the FSU stuff like Jupiter (you won't find wide and fast though) is pretty good if you get one that wasn't built on a friday afternoon after the last vodka break!

Would you consider a Contax like a G2? Ziess does an amazing lens range for the G2'S. not a Leica I know but still awesomely built camera's.

Regarding a Leica M6, I sourced one on ebay, from the states. It was around £450/$700 which was a bargain (considering UK prices) and was in exceptional condition.

One regret I have though was selling it.

Oh jesus, that Camera Collectables site is bad news for my wallet O_O

Oh, I can provide you my list of bookmarks... I had to hide them because they were just tempting me far too much. There's nothing like internet procrastination to damage the finances...
