Yes
We're looking to buy a new fabric sofa and initial research shows the price varies from a few hundred up to a s/h family car.

What benefits do you get as the price rises and is there a sweet spot price wise that gives most bang for your buck - as our friends across the water might say

I spent a lot of time looking for a sofa bed of a decent enough quality for under 1k. Finally chose to get it from the Furniture Village, they seemed the be the most decent in quality. I mist say they managed to screw up the delivery and then delivered the wrong foot stool, so not the best in the business.

You gets what you pays for!

But what exactly is that ? Is a £5k sofa 10 times better than a £500 one? To use a lens analogy some cheaper lenses may be verging towards the soft but move to mid range they often become sharp enough for most togs and the upper end version may offer weather sealing and a faster aperture, which may or may not suit your needs

Go look at a few. Sit yer @rse on them if' it's comfy and you like the colour/style etc get it. If not, don't. They'll usually come with some sort of lengthy guarantee or you can always purchase extra cover.

The brash one is correct.
Comfort is key.
It can be as expensive or well built as anything. ..but if it's not comfy, all you'll have is an expensive well built piece of art whilst you'd rather be sitting on the floor.

Pay attention :-)

It depends if you are buying it for keeps or to change when the fashions change - We bought a couple of contemporary Collins & Hayes Sofas about 15 years ago - they were about £2k each IIRC they are still as good as new and you can still buy replacement covers and have them overhauled at the factory - I doubt you'd get 15 years out of a £500 Sofa

i'll recommend DFS we bought from them and there back up service is A1 ,our sofa needed a bit more stuffing after a year of use and a manager was on the doorstep to assess it within a few days ,promised to come back 3 days later to re-pack the back and puff up the cushions with harder foam and exactly on appointed time he was there and did the job perfectly

i rest my case!

Ive had my Collins and Hayes ones for 25 years and just replacing them now.... Dont know what to get next..
Oh yes I do... Collins and Hayes
It is such a pain though , we spent ages looking at others but just couldnt find anything as comfortable.

They aren't cheap but they're great aren't they?

We are in the same place as OP. I don't want to spend any more than I have to. - but don't want to spend any less and buy something that turns out not to be durable. The last DFS sofa we bought lasted about a minute longer than the guarantee period. Think I'm off to look at Collins and Hayes then.

Catalina large and small.... they certainly are :)
(great ... not cheap)

Although there are an awful lot much more expensive but not always as good. I think they are actually very good value for money.

For what it's worth, DFS suite here.
Reclining sofa and 2 chairs.
Approaching 10 years old and not a single issue.

G-Plan here. Came from the MiL when she changed her mind about her sitting room. IIRC they bought it when they moved down here about 30 years ago (probably closer to 35) and still works fine. Comfortable, although it looks a little '80s now!
