Buying a Secondhand Camera.

Hi Dave1.

I did a googl e search and a shop from London came up and one from Wales and for example a 600D the price was £380 without lens, well time you added a lens you could buy a new one..
I'm going to have another look this afternoon to see what I can find.

Cheers mate.

That's quite cheap for a 600D on camera price buster a new body is £525. Witha kit lens it's £582 so the second hand one you have seen leaves you £200 to buy a lens with you could end up with something much better lens wise than the kit lens.

Have you tried MPB photographic for used stuff?

No but I will do..

Thanks Ian.

The worst kind of add for s/h stuff are

I brought my stuff about a year ago,I don't use it much, will some buy it of me for about the same as I paid for it :cuckoo:

Most s/h stuff is overpriced,if I am not going to save that much,I would much rather buy new :)

I would disagree, as an example, a Canon IS kit lens is £150 new from WEX, £75 2nd hand at MPB and normally around £60 on this forum. The 55-250 sells here for around 120, and is £200 new.

Bodies on the forum sell for hundreds less that new.

It's only highly prized gear that is in short supply new that seems to attract a premium even second hand (but that's supply and demand).

Its only a week and will be able to see whats for sale on here.. might give me a better clue.
But some of the new prices are dropping and I hope to visit the UK in Jan when the kids have gone back to school so hoping the January sale will lower them even further, it would be a good time to buy?

I agreed some people sell,at what I would call a good price,I am just saying some of the prices are :cuckoo:

The thing I think people don't understand, their are no g/tee with buying s/h of a private individual,no matter what the seller may tell you,a company has every right to refuse to repair a camera, even if it's still under g/tee from new,if it has been resold.

The same could be said for buying anything secondhand, do you also only buy your cars brand new?

And warranty wise, most retailers don't have a great issue with who takes an item in for warranty, for example, with a receipt, Jessops will take an item in from anyone.

A lot of buyers would also pay 50% of new price for something like a lens (that truth be told, doesn't have a lot that can go wrong), on the off chance it might go wrong. I have a 50mm f1.8 made in Feb of 1988 and it has never needed a repair.

I've brought second hand lenses and some of them are difficult to tell from brand new. I've had a 70-200 f4 and a 55-250 IS from members here and both were in mint condition. Never brought a camera second hand, not that I wouldn't, it's just when I've been in the market I've managed to find some very good bargains. I paid £925 for my 7D brand new when most of the second hand ones were going at £850 or more. A lot of the hobbyists probably take more care of their equipment than the pro's, who are covered up to the hilt with backups etc.

I'm finding the second hand market is a bit of an odd ball myself.. :)

you'll be in the Classifieds here in a few days, plenty of friendly genuine sellers in there ;)

Morning Dave.
That will be good and might sort a few things out for me. Its actually quite exciting and nervy at the same time.. :)

The shop in Brighton that sells second hand cameras has a mark up price, is this negotiable or are they set do you know?
