Buying a secondary monitor

Hi,

I'm seriously considering buying a larger monitor, say a 22 inch LCD jobbie, I have an imac with a 17" screen at the moment. I was thinking of addding the newer larger screen as a primary monitor for LR and PS.

What should I look out for?
Is there any issues with these LCD's in terms of photo editing? I notice there's 2MS and 5MS I dunno what that means really :thinking:

At places like pixmania there seems to be good prices on Samsung and Acer.

Any advice would be appreciated

You can spend £100 on a 22" monitor or £400+, 24" monitors start at £175 to £1000+ so knowing the budget is rather important.

My favourite reasonably priced monitor would be the DELL 2409 WFP and it is currently on special offer at £381 @ scan.co.uk

Yes, I s'pose it would have been a little more informative if I had stated a budget (whoops), but never the less is there anything to avoid?
I can spend around £200 max, ideally I'd like to spend £150 to £175.
I have seen, this one and this one and so far it appears fine and dandy, but it would as I don't know much about them.
My main concern is that as I need to edit images, are cheaper monitors going to have me at a disadvantage in anyway?

Most of the cheaper TFT displays cannot reproduce the full 24bit colour gamut.
You need to look for one which uses IPS (in-plane switching) technology.
These displays tend to have better colour and wider viewing angles but slower response time.

You also need to look at the pixel size. You don't want an image made up of tiddlywinks ;)

These displays tend to be very expensive. That's why I have two big fat .24 22" CRT's on my (re-enforced) desk :lol:

Cheers muchly for the reply, if I only edit in 16 BIT max, then am I still at a disadvantage?, my camera kicks out 14 bit RAW's at maximum so do I need 24 BIT colour editing for my photo processing?

As for pixel size, what would your recommendations be?
