Buying a new PC or iMac, should I buy the Dell XPS 8300?

Yes
I am looking to buy a PC or Mac. I will be using it for and video editing from a Canon 7D. Right now I have my mind set on a Dell XPS 8300. With a 8GB ram and 1TB hard drive. Is this a good decision compared to purchasing a iMac or other top of the range PC?

Any feedback at all would be much appreciated

It's going to be the processor that matters. Which are you thinking of getting? You'd probably benefit from the i7-2xxx and as much memory as you can put in it.

Which s/w do you use for video editing? Premiere Pro has the Mercury engine which runs on the graphics card which speeds editing along by a fair margin...

Not sure what Dell are like in value terms for tower PC's these days, but I'm happy with the XPS laptop we have.

Ive got an XPS8300, spec is

i7 2600 @ 3.4Ghz
1GB Radeon 6790
2 x 1.5TB drives
1x Samsung blu ray player
16GB Ram

Paid just under £570 incl VAT and Delivery from the Dell outlet, it was marked as a "dent and scratch" but theres isnt anything i can find other than a 15mm hairline pencil like mark on one side

Forgot to say... the Mercury engine runs ONLY on Nvidia hardware....

Nice price for that system Gary :)

Yea sorry, Umm I roughly planned on gettin the i7-2320. But to be honest I am slightly ignorant with computers so trying to find out as much as possible. I think I prefer using PC over Mac so probably gonna go do that route.
Thank you
