Buying a new camera?

Hi there,

I have posted before about buying a new camera (First professional Camera) and was fairly sure I would buy a Canon range (Due to pervious experience with them) and I was set on the Canon 40/50D. Now after saving up I'm fairly sure I can invest a little more to fit suit.

After doing lots of research (and being stupidly busy) I haven't really had a chance to sit down and buy a camera for professional use. Now coming up to the end of the year I have set aside some money to purchase some starting (entry) professional equipment to broaden my knowledge and portfolio for Photography, being a Graphic Designer (Student) I know all how important portfolios are.

Now, I have been doing some research and have am really not entire sure what camera too start off with, knowing that glass is more important than the body.

So the debate;

Originally I wanted to buy a 40-70d buy knowing them to be fairly pricey depending on which one, I came across the Canon 5D MKI.

Would I be better off buying a 5D MKI and spending more on lens or sticking with a 60/70D?

I'm wanting to learn most elements of photography from Nightclub / fashion photography all the way up too motor sport (Car Shows) as well as landscape photography (Hence why I'm stuck on the FF 5D MKI)

I'm going to buy a Body, a 50mm lens + 18-50 2.8 (undecided).

Thanks for your help.
