thinking of buying a new lens for my 7d.cant decide on canon 100-400 or sigma 100-500.it will be used mostly for bird photography.any advice would be helpful,thanks

LENS, the word is LENS!!!!!!:D And yes it does matter:lol:

I like the Canon except the fact that it's push/pull but I'd rather have it than the Sigma as it is rather good. However, I have not shot that particular Sigma so that's just my overall experience of Sigma as a whole and the fact that I think it's too slow at max aperture. However, plenty of crazies on here love the Sigma;)
 
(I assume the OP means Sigma 150-500)

Nothing to do with Crazies Dr O - it is simply whether a couple of stops (and 100mm less) are worth about half as much again on the bottom line. Both lenses are capable of taking a good picture and both have limitations. I do have both.

I probably agree that the 100-400 is the better lens, but at 1.5 times the price I would be a little surprised if it were otherwise.
