My sister is off to Hong Kong in a couple of weeks and offered to get purchase me any lenses i may like.
Any views or experience on prices from Hong Kong?

Thanks

Cheaper than UK
however if caught coming back then any taxes/duty may wipe out saving.

Warranty may not apply without tax/duty receipt if you get through.

Having said that if you are prepared to send the lens back to HK in th event of problems then go for it.

I buy off ebay where some purchaseshave a guarantee that any duty/tax will be refunded.

Got my 300 F4 for £480. some saving. even if I'd had to pay all taxes (was fully prepare to do so) I saved and in the end was only charged £30.00.

now thats some bizzare statement. Do you actually have any examples from past that it was required? I'm asking because according to all sources I ever looked at lenses from HK and generally imports come with Nikon International Warranty which is honoured in UK. Only electronics equipment (like bodies) need localized warranty.

I think PsiFox maybe referring to Sigma and Tamron products - they won't do any warranty repairs in the UK unless your receipt shows that you've paid UK VAT.

You're correct about Nikon with regards to lenses - they come with an international warranty which entitles you to repair anywhere.

Sorry, but agree with craig on that one, most only offer a standard warranty, which in most cases means that you have to send them back to the seller for repair, which could take a while, unfortunately repair/service centres in this country are tightening up their restrictions for this imported lenses. Some HK shops offer international warranty on their lenses, but then again have heard problems with these as well unless UK reciept like Kerso off eBay, but have no experience of buying from HK.
