Hi all, looking to buy a circular polarizing filter to improve my automotive photography. Think I have chosen to get a Hoya after seeing good reviews on them. However, I don't know where to get it from. I'm not sure if all are real and what is the best one for the best price. (58mm)

Cheapest - £16.95 (CameraKing on Amazon)
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Hoya-58mm-Circular-Polarizing-Filter/dp/B00006H2EY

is this the correct one? (Currys) http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/camera...ular-polarising-lens-filter-08337725-pdt.html

Most expensive (Amazon) Pro-1, possibly better? http://www.amazon.co.uk/Hoya-Digital-Circular-Polarizing-Filter/dp/B000KL7J3A

Thanks

The Pro-1 is more expensive because it is coated, which will greatly reduce the chances of flare and resultant loss of contrast. It is definitely worth paying the extra.

fact is you don't want to pay lots of money out on lenses only to put a piece of crap CPL on the end. But like all apple items ever made the mark-up of some of these well known brands is ridicules. I use a hoya pro filter but as I had it shipped from Germany I managed to get it for about 40% of the RRP. there are many comparison reviews on the net. take a look there and once you have a shortlist have a look around for the best price.

Like all things its price VS results

o .. and also the ones listed are 58mm.. im sure this isn't your biggest lens thread so if you buy this you'll soon have to buy a 2nd to fit another lens. why not opt for a 77mm and use step rings. that should cover 90% of lenses

I'd get a Marumi cheaper than a Hoya and easily as good dhg or dhg super are the ones to go for.

Would it be best to go for the Pro-1 D from Amazon for £28 than the £20 PL-CIR from Currys then? Or will the difference be minimal?

another bit of advice;
The Marumi filters are MUCH easier to clean than the Hoya's!
Also on the microglobe page you've linked, did you spot the "make an offer" box? probably get it a few £ cheaper!

The Marumi Super DHG filters have the easy-clean coating. Or Marumi Exus.

Also, Hoya HD and Revo filters have the same coating, and B+W MRC too :thumbs:

I have a B+W Pro one, and on my 24-105L I do find that it exaggerates the CA that the lens produces naturally. I thought it would be a useful filter to use and it is in lots of cases, but I felt IMO that it damaged the IQ a wee bit. That's supposed to be one of the better ones. It was well over £100. My GF is going to kill me once she finds out I hardly use it.

Can't say I've noticed the same problem with the marumi dhg I use on my 24-105mm but then I've never really noticed much/any CA on any shot! I'm fast coming to the conclusion I'm not very picky about photo gear I'm happy with my 50mm 1.4 wide open and most say it's soft and has no contrast!
