basically i want to buy my gran a camera and one of those little thermal printers to print directly from it as she doesnt have a computer. this is all fine, my only problem is with backing up her images, the prints from her APS ixus obviously get developed and you have a reel of negatives as backup, but with these "computerless" camera and printer options you obviously loose this ability and subsequently the option to retain copies for reprint etc once they are wiped from the camera

so i thought really there are 3 options-

- use my parents computer to backup images from the camera periodically, buy a big card, such as 2GB and bakup say once every few months when the camera gets full

- take the camera to an "instant prints" booth in a shop.... this would obviously do away with the requirement for a printer, but can these be used to backup files off a camera onto a cd at the same time as doing prints, ive never used one!

- portable storage which to me is the expensive option

am i missing something obvious here? is there an option i havent mentioned?

Option A is your best bet.

Buy a big card and put onto a cd or dvd when enough. Get her to pick the ones she wants printed and put them back onto the card and take a trip down to Asda's etc

Get 2 big cards. Then you can faff with one while she plays with the other.
2Gig is ~£20 so not too big a deal
