Maybe, but there's something to be said for UK warranty on Canon bodies rather than international warranty. It's alright I suppose if your freind travels to the States regularly - he could save you the insured carriage costs taking it back and picking it up if anything should go wrong, not to mention saving some time and aggravation.

How about £1994.78 with an international 3 year, no fuss, free shipping, warranty with insurance ?
How about paying £1732 for all that, on release and a couple of hundred quid less a couple of months later ?

If it breaks you need to send it back to America
Bought a 40D from DigiRev for £700 one week after it came out - needed servicing about 2 months later.
They did a decent job but talking over the phone to a Chinese national in London was not as good as talking to a person in Jessops etc.

My Advice
A warranty lasts a year. Are you prepared to purchase a camera for a few hundred less now and if it goes wrong in that year, are you either willing to pay the shipping costs, or the cash to get it repaired in this country?
These are the pros and cons:
Pros: Initial outlay is cheaper
Cons: If the b****r goes wrong in the first year, it may end up costing the same, if not more.
