Been in contact via email with a guy, I was arranging to buy a brand new 5dmk2 with 24-105 lens for £1850 from him, asking all the general questions regarding reason for sale etc, he says it is a uk model and the warranty is their as it has not been registered yet I asked if he had a shop receipt he has said no as he buys wholesale?. do people on here thing that this is a dodgy deal or can you buy like this and register later to get a warranty?.

Personally I would stay clear, it sounds very much like a grey import. Simply electronics used a similar phone with me, it took about 6 emails to get then to say they brought cherin hong kong and warrantied it them selves as nikon (in my case) would not carry pipit warrenty work on it.

I think you are right been looking for a while the cheapest I have seen from a uk camera shop is £2100 I know I would have peace of mind if I purchased from so maybe I will just have to save a bit more in the piggy bank and buy from a proper dealer.

A warranty isn't good without the receipt generally. So if he doesn't have proof of purchase, anything that goes wrong with the camera is unlikely to be covered.

At first I just wanted the camera body as I have a few lenses but only one L lens but it does seem a better deal to buy together with the 24-105L, decisions decisions.

I wanted the same, so i purchased the body only for £1600 from jessops a few months ago, price seems to have gone up again.

I just got the 24-105 second hand in mint condition for £500 so saved a little but it was worth it.

I've just got one ordered from www.hdewcameras.co.uk with a 24-105mm f4.0L for £2035 including delivery. They offer a "grey" import with a 3 year warranty and use a registered canon service centre for repairs. I've had 2 so called "grey" imports off ebay in the past and have had absolutely no problems from either.
I just couldn't afford to walk into a camera shop in town and get the same items as I just have, the cheapest being £2300 down on offer from £2500 for the same thing. I got a EX580 II as well and still didn't spend that much.

I looked at it in a similar way to you but bit the bullet and bought the body & kit lens new and at the time the difference in price between the body only and kit deal was £549 so it was a simple decision.
Jessops and Jacobs and others are all doing the kit package for less than £2100 and warehouse express are giving freebies or they were last time I looked so for piece of mind is it worth £50 ish difference when spending so much.

Thanks for advice, I have noticed that in some shops (jessops £2300)the price has gone up maybe its been raised so that when the new model appears which may be immanent the % drop will look more spectacular heading towards xmas sales.

The MK3 is a long long way off while the MK2 is still selling well.

hdew are very good, and as said only use authorised nikon and canon, repair centers.
I paid £1380 for my d700 which was £200 cheaper then anywhere else at the time and i got 3 years warrenty instead of the normal 2.

Has anyone used Calumet Photographic and what is their experience? Thought I would ask just to double check before using.

I bought mine from them, but in person @ Canon Pro Solutions...

No issues with it at all...

I've bought a fair few lighting bits and bobs from them with no problems. I usually get my lenses from Camera World, staff are always nice and helpful and know what they are talking about.
