Can anyone recommend some decent book keeping software for Mac? Looking for a one stop shop that I can just print out at the end of the year. Currently using Blinkbid, but want something a bit more robust.

Thanks in advance

John

You're more limited with a MAC to be honest, there are some but nowhere as bear as many as are designed for PC's.

Have you thought about using an online accounting/book-keeping software, that way it doesn't matter what computer you have so long as you've got the Internet connection.

Some of the online/cloud accounting packages are just a few £'s per month

There are online ones like free agent or ronin. They have PayPal invoicing and all sorts built in.

Intuit are one I have heard of.

Cant remember if something like Light Blue offer accountancy.

Is Sage available on the Mac?

We run a locally hosted web based accounting package. Depends what you want, but the one we use (FrontAccounting) only requires PHP and MySQL (there must be a LAMP server for OS-X). The advantage is any network based computer can access it.

Stay away from Sage and QuickBooks (intuit). Their online offerings are severely crippled compared to even their entry level desktop counterparts. They are fast being caught up (and in my opinion overtaken) by the likes of Kashflow and Xero.

Zero is a winner for me. We have been using it for a year, our accountant have taken it up and it does everything we need.

They can pay by online payment, they get a little portal to check the status of their invoices. IPad application for invoicing, send email statements to All customers in about 6 clicks. There is also an android and iPhone application for doing expenses and other bits.

Can links to Hancock bank accounts for automatic bank reconciliation.

And a lot cheaper than tas or sage.

A little word of warning, with the exception of HSBC, last time I looked, All Xero's bank 'integrations' (and almost all similar services) uses screen scraping techniques and not full API type integration which has been approved by the banks.

What you are effectively doing is handing over your login credentials to a third party (Xero). Banks are for obvious reasons very reluctant to let third parties anywhere near their systems.

Before using such services, have a read of your bank's T's and C's, as you might find that they have grounds not to pay out if you ever become a victim of fraud (even if it cannot be proved that you giving over your credentials was to blame).

Back on topic, do try out the free demos of all online accounting systems. After checking out all options, including Xero, we opted for Kashflow. It works perfectly on a mac and all mobile devices.Their API is one of the best there is, meaning that it integrates with dozens of other online services.

If anyone wants a discount code, let me know.

Don't ask me why it can link to Hancocks account, but it can link to HSBC. LOL

Guys thanks for all the suggestions, I'm going to go through them now and take a look. Hadn't even considered an online system, but it makes sense.

Thanks again.
