Hi

I want to make a slide show, put captions on the pictures and be able to play the DVD back on the TV. Can anyone recommend a good software to do exactly that please. I have tried to do it through Picasa but somehow the captions get lost. Thanks

Do it in Powerpoint and save as an mp4. Powerpoint gets very mixed reviews - mainly it seems on the negative side - but is capable of producing a cracking show complete with music.
One of the big criticisms is that the music and vision don't necessarily sync on different devices. Saving as an mp4 remedies this.

and I can burn that on to a DVD that I can play on TV ? Does it give you the option to choose PAL for the DVD, Robp? Thanks , by the way, for your answer

Hi

What os are you using? Windows or Osx?

Yep, you can burn to DVD. You can also save it on a memory stick and play via a Ps3 or 4 etc.
As to the PAL question, I'm sorry I don't know the answer to that one.

Thanks, guys, for your help. As it happens, I mustr confess, i discovered Windows Live Movie Maker, and it has done everything I wanted. Sorry to waste your time. It was already on my computer but being an old geezer, I hadn't discovered it and only by happenstance, i found it. So, all's well that ends well.

It's never a waste of time, mate. If a question needs asking, it needs asking.
Pleased you sorted it and yep, Windows Movie Maker does the job you wanted so apologies for not even thinking about it when I replied to your query :)

Here's a slideshow I did a couple of months ago in Powerpoint. It's my third ever attempt at Powerpoint, and being a fellow old geezer, the learning curve tends to be steep to the point of breathlessness when not even halfway up so there are plenty of 'issues' with the final draft but I enjoyed doing it.
