I have covered 7 Cricket games in the last 8 days, yesterday being the 8th day, I woke this morning and just didn't feel like doing another one today....I feel I owe it to the players to turn up and shoot because its an anual tournament, but to be honestly truthful, I would be happier in myself not to go....

Does anyone else get like this and what is your remedy ?

I feel a little burnt out so to speak.

Sounds like hard work. I did five football matches in 7 days earlier in the year but that's not really the same as you're not at football for as long. I also did a kids football tournament which was Saturday and Sunday 9am-4pm which was hard going.

I think the Sunday night remedy was copious amounts of beer

last week
wed 9 hrs non stop football all day
thu 9 hrs non stop football all day
fri 9 hrs non stop football all day
sat cricket all day inc a cup final last ball at 7.30pm
sun cricket all day inc another cup final last ball at 7.50pm

i have done 4 full consecutive 90 minute footy matches in a day

with the 4 matches and the 9hr tournament days.. you start to lose the plot by the end of the day and justgo on auto pilot.. but always ready to go next day

i used to sit at non league grounds on a snowey or wet tuesday night.. the only photogrpaher there hoping someone might buy a picture.. i used to think why? what am i doing here.am i mad?.. but its all stood me well :)

anyhting repetative will get you down.. but so long as your happy to go again then you make the grade :)

I think it is the same for most jobs.

Maybe a few beers can help.

Got to agree there Rob, i can put 12 hours a day in 5 days a week and i also work every single saturday morning in my "normal" job and this is even before i pick a camera up with the possibility of 1 friday night job, 1 saturday afternoon/evening/night job, 1 sunday morning job and a sunday afternoon job

Personally I'd be suicidal after that much cricket so I don't blame you for feeling jaded.

I have had a few stressful jobs ...... but the concentration required for cricket is very demanding...Its ok doing it for 20 mins for an agency job/Paper, but to capture sellable images of all the players doing something of interest and to capture the action is quite tough.

I honestly believe this is the hardest discipline to capture all aspects of the game ....I stand to be corrected. lol

Yes the beer is a good idea but it kills me the next day and I was working again...

I have attached an image that I am quite proud of...except for the poor background...I didnt have much choice in this selection.

It was captured the day after I was feeling a bit under the weather....So it cheered me up a little...lol

Actually I think that the kid in the background almost completely OOF adds to the image Simon.

Cracking shot & great timing.

Edit: minor niggle - there's quite a bit of fringing around the player. How much did you sharpen it?

.

:plusone: so far in my day job i've had 4 days off in the last 24 and ive worked an average of 75 hours per week - including finishing a paperwork at 1.45am in the morning then going to work at 7am

no employer can legally force you to work that hard but many of us voluntarily do it to ourselves whether in the hope of advancement, pay, or just because we can't switch off - and self employment is probably an even harder task master

Hi Mark,

Thank you for the comments... When I showed the crowd the image, they were blown away with it...But I just thought straight away that the background was a problem....

If I recall correctly the Sharpening was 23 in LR3.... The file size is really small for use on here...some 79K ...The pixel size is 800x703 at 300 dpi

I try not to oversharpen...I think your WRT your comment, I think this may be down to the size of the image...I'm not too sure....lol

I have some really amazing images from the last few weeks... Now the 400mm and the Mk IV have had a calibration...

I just need to remember which body to use on the 400mm and use the other one on the 70-200 lol

The crop was a quick crop in a free program...which may also explain it....

I should also add that the original image is pin sharp...the stitching on the ball in his hand is crisp...Can you tell I'm well chuffed with this one...lol
